If you're a teen (or if you have one), you know there aren't many books out there that will guide you in the craft of writing. This isn't one of those books you have to read 45 pages of before you get to the good stuff. I set out to create something that will help you become a better writer while giving you space to keep your stories together. You start with a journal type exercise that's geared toward giving you emotions to draw from as you craft your tales. Then, we move on to creating your characters and diving into the prompts. I gave you one a month. Prompts range from romance to dystopian, so there's soemthing for every writing style. I didn't include anything for poetry, but you're free to do what you wish. This book is yours, after all. There's no focus on spelling or punctuation. This is a book to guide you creatively. Period. There are no world-building exercises. I focused on character-driven stories because I believe your worlds can grow from there. Have fun with it. Write. Be creative and grow. This guide was created by author and editor Jo Michaels. This volume presents a multidisciplinary approach to narrative engagement within the paradigms of cognitive linguistics, cognitive narratology, and social-psychology. In their basic form, storyworld possible selves, or SPSs, are blends resulting from the conceptual integration of an intra- and an extra-diegetic perspectivizer. In written narratives, SPS blends function as hybrid referents for a variety of inclusive and ambiguous linguistic expressions, which are here explored from the standpoint of interactional cognitive linguistics, as instances of SPS objectification and subjectification. The model also draws on character construction and on the social-psychology notions of self-schemas and possible selves. This allows an exploration of emotional responses to narratives not just in terms of empathy or sympathy towards fictional entities, but also in terms of narrative ethics and of culturally determined and simultaneously idiosyncratic feelings of personal relevance and self-transformation.

Almost every writer has a pathological predisposition to procrastination and often believe there is a magical answer to the question ‘where do you get your ideas?’. Well now, whether you write Twitfic, Microfiction, Flash Fiction, Short Short Stories, Short Stories, Novelettes, Novellas, Novels or Scripts you can tell everyone that you get your ideas here. This is a prompts book. Oh yes. But it's a prompts book with a BIG difference. The prompts in this book aren't the usual, run-of-the-mill, mind numbingly boring prompts you usually get. Oh, no. Not here. And this is not the sort of book that's just going to give you a prompt and expect you to know what to do with it. No matter what form your writing takes, this book will show you an easy way to get the ideas out of your brain and transformed into stories. How? Well that's the easy part - firstly there's Mr Maxwell's Spectacular Story Suggester. A simple method of taking whichever prompt you choose and getting it straight into the easiest possible form so you can get to the important part - writing the story. There is, of course, more. The author has taken a prompt and written a Flash Fiction story from it and then explained exactly how he did it. Then Adrian Graham, a prolific microfiction author whose ebooks have been downloaded over 120 thousand times has written some exquisite stories and explained how to create micro-magic from the prompts Next Rosalind Wyllie, a tremendous playwright whose plays have been performed up and down the country by fine companies of players (including the RSC) has penned a short script and taken time from her busy schedule to describe how she weaved her magic. And last but by no means least the fantastic Y.A. author Mr C.G. Allan has written a children's short story and then explained just how it went from prompt to print. By the time you've inhaled this book you mind will be an overflowing well of wonderful ideas and even better - you'll know what to do with them.

One of Esquire’s Best Books to Elevate Your Reading List in 2020, , and a OneZero Best Tech Book of 2020. Named one of the 100 Notable books of 2020 by the End of the World Review. A concise but wide-ranging personal history of the internet from—for the first time—the point of view of the user In a shockingly short amount of time, the internet has bound people around the world together and torn us apart and changed not just the way we communicate but who we are and who we can be. It has created a new, unprecedented cultural space that we are all a part of—even if we don’t participate, that is how we participate—but by which we’re continually surprised, betrayed, enriched, befuddled. We have churned through platforms and technologies and in turn been churned by them. And yet, the internet is us and always has been. In Lurking, Joanne McNeil digs deep and identifies the primary (if sometimes contradictory) concerns of people online: searching, safety, privacy, identity, community, anonymity, and visibility. She charts what it is that brought people online and what keeps us here even as the social equations of digital life—what we’re made to trade, knowingly or otherwise, for the benefits of the internet—have shifted radically beneath us. It is a story we are accustomed to hearing as tales of entrepreneurs and visionaries and dynamic and powerful corporations, but there is a more profound, intimate story that hasn’t yet been told. Long one of the most incisive, ferociously intelligent, and widely respected cultural critics online, McNeil here establishes a singular vision of who we are now, tells the stories of how we became us, and helps us start to figure out what we do now.

Write to Celebrate, Heal, and Free the Wild Woman Within In her years as a writing coach, Judy Reeves has found twin urges in women: they yearn to reclaim a true nature that resides below the surface of daily life and to give it voice. The longing to express this wild, authentic nature is what informs Reeves’s most popular workshop and now this workshop in a book. Here, you will explore the stages that make up your life, from wild child, daughter/sister/mother, and loves and lovers, to creative work, friendships, and how the wise woman encounters death. Both intuitive and practical, Wild Women, Wild Voices responds to women’s deep need for expression with specific and inspiring activities, exercises, and writing prompts. With true empathy, Reeves invites, instructs, and celebrates the authentic expression — even the howl — of the wild in every woman.
