There’s a wide spectrum of emotional sensitivity, and it varies from one person to another. Some people oscillate between over-control and over-expression. Others stuff or hide their emotions for months before they finally blow their stack and “stand up for them selves” through overly aggressive behaviors. People diagnosed with borderline personality disorder (BPD) for example, are are often emotionally sensitive, and may have problems with emotion dysregulation, but they aren’t the only ones who have trouble with managing emotions—we all do. There have probably been times in each of our lives when we can remember not being in our “right mind.” When we are regularly undone by our emotions, we become victims of damaged relationships, trapped circumstances, self-sabotage, and illness. Don't Let Your Emotions Run Your Life offers help to all of us who want to gain the upper hand on our feelings and our lives. Even high reactors, people disposed to experiencing strong, even overwhelming emotions on a regular basis, will find its strategies easy to use and effective at managing frequent emotional flare-ups. This book develops proven dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) techniques into worksheets, exercises, and assessments that show you how to pay attention to emotions when they arise, assess blocks to controlling them, and overcome them to eliminate overpowering feelings. Learn what emotional triggers exist in your environment and become less judgmental about yourself when you do experience a surge. Avoid or reduce the distress that strong emotions cause you. This workbook teaches you to reduce the impact of painful feelings and increase the effects of positive ones so that you can tolerate life's ongoing stresses and achieve a sense of calm coexistence with your emotions.

Anyone who has done children's sermons will sooner or later hear from someone that I learn more from the children's sermon than I do from the real sermon. And indeed, the truths of scripture are so simple that even a child can understand them. So it's no accident that children's sermons have become a central part of the worship service in many churches.Brett Blair and Tim Carpenter offer a year's worth of object lessons that engage children and impart profound lessons for all ages. Two sermons are provided for each Sunday in Cycle A of the Revised Common Lectionary, one based on the Second Lesson and one based on the Gospel. The messages are structured in two parts: the lesson uses an object to draw out active responses from children, then the application connects that object to the assigned scripture reading. Each message includes a clear statement of its exegetical aim.

Despite new research and increased public awareness, autism is still looked at in a negative light. Most books on the subject perpetuate this notion by saying that autism is bad or needs to be overcome, rather than highlighting the positive--for instance, many people with autism graduate from college, attain exciting careers, and lead happy, fulfilling lives. Making Autism a Gift emphasizes these positive realities and tears down the wall of isolation associated with this disorder. With information from hundreds of up-to-date sources, this practical book looks at the effects of autism on the individual and provides strategies parents can use to help their autistic children at home and beyond.

Through our home passed race car drivers, astronauts,a Walt Disney Director, the Australian and Chilean Davis Cup Teams, professional musicians, NBA coaches, players and presidents, a few criminals, Charles Goren, con artists and many, many relatives., and my daughters still managed to grow up to be fine people. The book is meant to be an entertaining and enlightening story telling just how my daughters became such wonderful adults. I was the first influence in their lives, but I believe that every person they met and every experience they had also had an influence on them. Their father was rich, a graduate from Harvard and a thirty one year old businessman, and I was a nineteen year old aspiring opera singer when we met. The book deals with the differences in our backgrounds, and our interests, and my trying to make it as a singer in New York, then getting married instead and creating a happy home in which to bring up children in spite of many untimely deaths, illnesses, disappointments and heart attacks, I have written about my ideas about raising children, but also about such wheelers and dealers, as my father in law, Charles B. Sommers, and Carl Fisher, the developer of Miami Beach and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, with D.C. Stephenson, head of the Ku Klux Klan, with a lurid murder trial in Indianapolis, with Methodist Hospital, Clarian Health Care, racing cars and races, semesters abroad, our fabulous trips to Europe, Wimbledon, South America, and Trenton, and my opinions about just about every topic you can think of. I end with a chapter on the technology and events that has changed our lives and with my memories and thoughts about WWII and 9//11, and what I see for the future. My point is that all these things played a part in determining how my children grew to be such fine adults.

This type of guide helps a person be able to help someone who is choking or has been in an accident. The way that this works is that it shows people the way to properly resuscitate people using pressure techniques and breathing, but also how to clear the lungs of fluid that was inhaled. Another important factor of choking relief is that a person can learn how to dislodge an item forcefully from the throat of a person who is choking, thus unable to get breathe. It is the way to save a life when other options are not available.
