Monitoring of public and private sites is increasingly becoming a very important and critical issue, especially after the recent flurry of terrorist attacks including the one on the Word Trade Center in September 2001. It is, therefore, imperative that effective multisensor surveillance systems be developed to protect the society from similar attacks in the future. The new generation of surveillance systems to be developed have a specific requirement: they must be able to automatically identify criminal and terrorist activity without sacrificing individual privacy to the extent possible. Privacy laws concerning monitoring and surveillance systems vary from country to country but, in general, they try to protect the privacy of their citizens. Monitoring and visual surveillance has numerous other applications. It can be employed to help invalids or handicapped and to monitor the activities of elderly people. It can be used to monitor large events such as sporting events, as well. Nowadays, monitoring is employ~d in several different contexts including transport applications, such as monitoring of railway stations and airports, dangerous environments like nuclear facilities or traffic flows on roads and bridges. The latest generation of surveillance systems mainly rely on hybrid analog-digital, or completely digital video communications and processing methods and take advantage of the greater of flexibility offered by video processing algorithms that are capable focusing a human operator's attention on a set of interesting situations.

Next-generation mobile communications are likely to employ different techniques and standards. Bachelor Thesis from the year 2014 in the subject Computer Science - Applied, , language: English, abstract: The influence of vision is taking one-step ahead with the introduction of sophisti-cated eye-tracking and gaze-tracking techniques, which track the movement of the eye and the gaze location to control various applications. This paper describes in detail the low-cost hardware development and the software architecture for a real-time eye tracking based on color system using the open-source image-processing framework of AForge.NET. The designed system uses a USB camera to detect the eye movements and uses EuclideanColorFiltering to filter colors, and then it detects the biggest object between them and gets the location of that object. The system shows to the patient some question and answers according to the questions, he will look at one of the answers, then, it will be highlighted. By this way, the doctor will know what is wrong with the patient and what should be done to cure him. This provides a highly useful alternative control system for a person suffering from ALS or in Vegetative state of brain stroke. The software system is in Kurdish language and it is designed for the patient in a way to be relaxed and be as simple as possible. Test results on systems on the correct locations and error percentage shows the per-formance of the developed eye tracking system.

Computer processing and image analysis technologies have improved substantially over the course of the past decade. This rapidly advancing technology along with the emphasis on video surveillance since 911 has propelled the development of effective video image detection (VID) systems for ?re. Fire protection system designers initially employed these VID systems for use in large facilities, outdoor locations and tunnels. However, video-based detection is being used for a broadening range of applications [e. g. , 1]. For example, these systems are c- rently installed in electrical power plants, paper mills, document storage facilities, historic municipal buildings, nuclear research facilities, automotive plants, wa- house/distribution centers, and onshore and offshore oil platforms. The 2007 edition of NFPA 72, National Fire Alarm Code [2], recognized the use of VID systems for ?ame and smoke detection. Although recognized, there is limited prescriptive installation and use requirements and there is a general desire by many for the development of performance criteria that ultimately could be utilized for the design of systems or the creation of standards. Since the underlying VID technology and development of standard and network-based camera systems are in a period of fairly rapid advancement [3–5], it is not possible to de?ne a comprehensive set of stand-alone prescriptive requirements. The performance of VID systems depends on both the video hardware and the software algorithms; there is no basic underlying principle, such as there is for ionization or pho- electric detection for smoke detectors. Consequently, performance-based inst- lation and operation requirements are needed.
