'To see clearly is poetry, prophecy, religion, all in one' John Ruskin - born 200 years ago, in February 1819 - was the greatest critic of his age: a critic not only of art and architecture but of society and life. But his writings - on beauty and truth, on work and leisure, on commerce and capitalism, on life and how to live it - can teach us more than ever about how to see the world around us clearly and how to live it. Dr Suzanne Fagence Cooper delves into Ruskin's writings and uncovers the dizzying beauty and clarity of his vision. Whether he was examining the exquisite carvings of a medieval cathedral or the mass-produced wares of Victorian industry, chronicling the beauties of Venice and Florence or his own descent into old age and infirmity, Ruskin saw vividly the glories and the contradictions of life, and taught us how to see them as well.

To look at Kandace Clarke, one would never know that she was blind.
Author: J. E. Terrall
To look at Kandace Clarke, one would never know that she was blind. She stood tall and straight and carried herself well. Many men had admired her figure, the smoothness of here complexion and the soft shine of her shoulder length hair. Her Seeing Eye Dog, Chester, would guide her safely across the streets and along the sidewalks. The two of them moved as one, except for today. Kandance was found burised and beaten by muggers on the street of the Old Town District of Fort Collins by Lieutenant Jason Barrett, a detective on the Fort Collins Police Department. Chester had been seriously injured when he tried to protect his master. The search for Kandace's attackers led Jason to the back alleys of Fort Collins where he came upon an old woman who had found Kandace's briefcase. The clues Jason gathered led him to a run-down bar that had been used as a hideout by one of the muggers. When it was discovered that the muggers were trying to find Kandace to kill her so she could not identify them, Jason hid Kandace in his apartment. During this time with her in his protection, he came to see clearly the strength of this courageous woman

Are God, angels, and demons really invisible? Or can the spirits be seen with human eyes, through the lens of Church Ethics? The gift of discerning of spirits is indispensible to the study of church ethics. Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits), wrote two sets of Rules for Discerning of Spirits in his Spiritual Exercises in the early 1500s. He taught how the church can receive from God the gift to see otherwise invisible angels, demons, and the Holy Spirit. Ignatius' views were influenced by John Cassian, Jacobus de Voragine, Ludolph of Saxony, and Thomas à Kempis. Ignatius' Rules are exegeted in dialogue with contemporary scholars Karl Rahner, Hugo Rahner, Piet Penning de Vries, Jules Toner, and Timothy Gallagher, and applied to one study of ecclesial ethics in the narrative theology of Samuel Wells. A four-step Ignatian pneumato-ethical method is developed, which any analyst can follow to see the spirits, by consolation/desolation, consent, manifestation, and pneumato-ethics. This method revolutionizes how we study ecclesiology, soteriology, missiology/world religions, liturgy, worship, Eucharist, hermeneutics, homiletics, pastoral counseling, church history, and politics. The spirits are not invisible at all. They can be clearly discerned through the lens of ecclesial ethics.

The Christian community is a vibrant and flourishing worldwide community of believers held together by their common faith in Jesus Christ and the divine truths of the Holy Bible. The scriptures are the source of their strength and contain within the promise of eternal salvation that is granted to all who choose to believe. Pastor Garrick Bridgeforth has been called by God to bring a genuine and deeper understanding of the scriptures through his book, Words of The Bible explained. This book’s purpose is to enlighten and deter those who, by either sheer ignorance or selfish, malicious intent, would end up misunderstanding or even intentionally distorting the messages of the Holy Bible, leading themselves and those who follow them away from the original teachings. This book does not read like a standard dictionary of definitions. Instead, the terms and concepts are explained in great depth, analyzed in the context as it is found in the Bible, clarified further with conventional wisdom, and delivered in a way modern readers could understand. Words of The Bible explained is an ideal companion book to have when reading the Bible, expanding a Christian’s understanding of the scriptures.
