This book is about the meanings of Christmas. It makes for a fine Christmas present--written in popular, poetic style--and is a literary classic. This little dialogue shared by women, men and children on Christmas Eve is the jewel in the crown of Schleiermacher's theological writings. It features celebrations among close friends in a traditionally decorated home--stories told by four women, doctrinal interpretations offered by four men. All these events are shared in dialogue, accompanied by singing, activities, and expressions of two young children, and exchange of homemade gifts. Beautifully written and full of evocative images, it is in effect a drama, lending itself to being read aloud. For the first time the two original German editions (1806 and 1826) can be handily compared, though without interrupting smooth reading of the final edition from start to finish. It will serve as a brief piece for reflection by students from high school through graduate school.

Music and liturgy seem inseparable, yet we seldom pause to ponder their relationship in depth. In this volume, Kathleen Harmon offers her own insights by creatively exploring the complex interplay between congregational singing and the liturgical celebration of the paschal mystery. Professional music scholars, graduate students, music directors, and anyone else seeking a sophisticated analysis of liturgical music will find this volume a rich sourcebook of new ideas.

Morning and Evening Meditations from the Word of God

Morning and Evening Meditations from the Word of God

What would you say are the two key words ofthis verse? Celebrate and joy. God's
people are to take time to celebrate and joy comes from the Lord. Joy is also your
strength because this joy comes from God Himself and is a character of God.

There are many devotional books available containing brief, daily inspirations that benefit all who read them. This book is different in two respects. The first is obvious: it contains two readings per day—732 in all. The second, more important difference is that the author wanted to do more than offer inspiration; this would make this book no different than so many others. The messages in the book are study sketches in that the content is not only inspirational, but also educational, challenging, and encouraging. Most of these writings were based on author Michael J. Akers’s teaching of adult Bible studies for more than thirty years and learning what really brought adults to want to deepen their knowledge and application of the Word of God.

A book is magical; it transcends time and space. We hope to capture this magic with the publication of Westerville Kids Celebrate the Written Word, a collection of writing completed this school year by students in the Westerville City Schools Math/Science and Language Arts Able and Talented Program. Whether writing individually or in small groups, writing to solve problems or to amuse, students scaled the peaks of their imagination to discover the satisfaction of the written word. We are delighted to present our students' work with the publication of this anthology. Joan Grundey and Linda Mitten, Able and Talented Teachers
