Amidst the massacre he himself helped bring about, Carnelian is now desperate to find a way to avoid more carnage. But it is too late for that. His spurned lover, Osidian, seeking revenge and determined to win back his stolen throne, has deliberately stoked the wrath of the Masters who rule the world from its centre, Osrakum. Osidian's actions have stirred into motion political events in Osrakum which threaten to overturn the millennial repressive order of the Commonwealth. Carnelian learns that he and those he loves are now inextricably enmeshed in the terrible power game of the Masters. If he and they are to survive, he has no choice but to play that game himself, though he does not know how. He has no choice but to stand with Osidian in defiance of the invincible power of the Masters. No choice but to take his loved ones deeper into peril. In his struggle he will find unlooked-for allies and guidance with dreadful motives of its own. And ultimately, he will unleash apocalyptic forces which will bring him and his world to a reckoning none could have forseen, though it has been simmering for four thousand years.

It is eleven thousand B.C. and the early Native American tribes are battling for the colossal herds of bison that roam the prairie. As the Four Tribes of the mountain people prepare to haul bison meat back to the western peaks, Mira, daughter of the chieftain of the Tolai tribe and her mate Thais, are happily reunited with their pet, Wolf, and his new mate, Dona. Anxious to depart before the Menkala, brutal warriors of the plains, sniff them out, Mira and her young family have no idea just how challenging their trek is about to become. While the Menkala lurk in the shadows and wait for the gods to favor them, a fiery tail blazes through the sky and hits the earth. Certain that it is a sign, the tribe heads toward the point of impact where they find a glowing ember they believe to be a powerful and magical stone sent by the gods. As a new religion is born that threatens to destroy the tribes of the plains, the Four Tribes set out on a perilous journey where Mira will face the greatest trials and adventures of her life. An assessment of Trinitarian thought in the two-hundred-year-old Stone-Campbell Movement, including suggestions for ways in which the renewal of Trinitarian doctrine can revitalize the church's life and mission. Throughout its history the Stone-Campbell Movement has noticeably neglected Trinitarian doctrine, prohibiting a biblical understanding of God as Trinity from significantly impacting the movement's churches. This book attempts to rectify this weakness in three ways. First, a focus on the Trinitarian positions of Thomas Campbell, Alexander Campbell, and Barton W. Stone sheds new light on the early shapers of the movement. Second, the book lays out specific ways in which the movement would benefit by a biblically grounded Trinitarianism and the contributions of contemporary trinitarian theologians. And third, it presents a plan for the advancement of biblical Trinitarian doctrine among Stone-Campbell churches. Significant contributions of this study include the most thorough examination to date of Trinitarian doctrine in Stone-Campbell thought, an original presentation of the historical theology that stands behind the Trinitarian positions of Thomas Campbell, Alexander Campbell, and Barton W. Stone, and a fresh proposal regarding the roots of Barton Stone's quasi-Arianism.

For centuries, the Bible's dramatic accounts have inspired artists to express the beauty, emphasize the power, and elaborate on the meaning of God's Word. Each elective study in the Through Artists' Eyes series is designed to help people connect classic art to the Bible and then apply the truths discovered to their own lives. In God's Word in Stone you'll experience the artistry of six masterpieces of sculpture while discovering and discussing the scriptural inspiration behind each one. You'll explore the lives of Moses, Habakkuk, Haggai, Mary Magdalene, Paul the apostle, and the apostles. Each of the six sessions includes: • Selecting the Stone—an introductory, group-building activity that gives members an opportunity to share opinions about the main theme of study • Roughing out the Image—an examination of the work, life, and thoughts of the artist • Polishing the Art—a Bible study that places the work of the artist within biblical context • Displaying the Masterpiece—discussion questions that encourage group members to apply the principles of the study to daily life Additionally, each study features margin notes, tips for projecting the art, definitions of art terms, and suggested supplemental resources for further exploration.

How well do you know His story? By the time a Christian reaches young adulthood, he is likely to be quite familiar with every major story in the Bible, but not from having studied them in any particular order. Ask an average Bible student to arrange certain characters and events chronologically, and the results are telling. Telling God’s Story looks closely at the Bible from its beginning in Genesis to its conclusion in Revelation. By approaching Scripture as one purposefully flowing narrative, emphasizing the inter-connectedness of the text, veteran college professors Preben Vang and Terry G. Carter reinforce the Bible’s greatest teachings and help readers in their own ability to share God’s story effectively with others. Ideal for classroom settings, this second edition of Telling God's Story now features all supporting charts, photographs, and illustrations in full color!

All alone on a hillside stands an ancient, crumbling stone castle. Built in 1637 to protect its people, the castle has seen many families, invasions, and wars. The story starts in the safety of St. Louis, Missouri, where the narrator, a refugee from the Bosnian War, thinks back to his homeland and the castle fortress that was built for his ancestors. After being expelled from their village after the death of her husband, a woman named Fatima and her three sons—Mooyo, Halil, and Omer—set up camp on a hillside. She sends her oldest son, Mooyo, to a neighboring city with a few coins to buy a cow. After heroically defending the city from the bandits, Mooyo is rewarded beyond his family’s imagination. Their camp sits on a strategic spot that the Ottomans wish to guard from attacks. After hearing of Mooyo’s cleverness and bravery, they make him a prince, let him take an army of reformed bandits to serve him, and take him back to his mother and brothers, promising to build him a stone castle-fortress. And thus begins their adventures. The saga follows Prince Mooyo the First and his decedents who bear the same name up until Mooyo IX, who lives during the time of the Bosnian War. As many people during that time, Mooyo IX flees the only home he has ever known. He leaves with his wife and young son, but they have to abandon their car on the crowded streets. They become refugees of one camp and another. Although the camps were free from war, life has become unbearable, and Mooyo decides to risk escaping. The journey was illegal and dangerous to take his wife and son. After the false start, he makes it to Croatia, Slovenia, Austria, and then to Germany. With the help of numerous relatives, friends, and strangers, he makes it to freedom and peace. Then he struggles to establish a new life, learn a new language, and arrange illegal passage for his wife and son. Along the way, he must overcome villains, borders patrol, bureaucracy, and impatience. As the Bosnian War finally ends, he is reunited with his family, and they decide to immigrate to the United States. He continues to be haunted by nightmares of war and the loss of the land and castle that was so much a part of his being.

Every Pastor is in a season of waiting. Waiting for the vision God shares, being part of a movement of Holy Spirit, encountering His presence then sharing with the staff how to move forward with these experiences. How to move, how to grow, how to share, and how to wait. These are all attributes of waiting. It's not a wish-to, but a hope that latches onto to a promise that God gave you. Stagnation during these times of waiting is detrimental. Consider Jesus sharing the parable of the talents. Either invest your money or place it in the bank to grow interest. But to do nothing is unacceptable. When called to be a pastor you know that God has chosen you. He has the Word for you to grow in, to share and to move in. Then you must stay prepared for that to take place. It is exciting to be part of a movement of God. To see a vision take place. However, what happens when the vision you received does not come into fruition? What about when you fail and not just a little, but you tank it? What about those pastors that have been called by God, but due to extenuating circumstances, are unable to fulfill God's destiny? It could be due to resignation, church split, being fired, spouse dying, even retirement. There is a myriad of reasons. What happens to those Pastors who are no longer on a church staff? To those who have stepped away from ministry for a season (or longer) but are attending a church regularly? They perceive the services with the same acumen as the restaurateur assess another restaurant. The former Pastors may see the church like that Senior Pastor or Staff Pastor. To delve deeper, what about the spouse who served faithfully alongside their mate and best friend? What happens to that person when their spouse - their pastor - is no longer working as a "person of the cloth"? This book is for those pastors. Those men and woman of God who have heard the calling to preach the good news to all creation. To the men and women who understand the verse out of James 3
