The Clinton scandal consumed the better part of a year of American public life, bitterly dividing the nation and culminating in a constitutional crisis. In this book, thoughtful, nonpartisan essays provide an insightful and lasting analysis of one of the major political events of our time. Here leading scholars explore the long-reaching constitutional and political implications of the scandal: how it will affect the presidency, the law, and the political process. A first group of chapters considers effects of the scandal on institutions: the presidency, Congress, the courts, the independent counsel statute, executive privilege, and the impeachment process itself. A second section addresses political factors: public opinion, the media, and presidential character and personality. A concluding essay broadly examines the implications of the scandal for governance. These far-reaching essays address such issues as risks posed to Congressional political careers, the prospect of future presidents being subject to civil suits, the pros and cons of Kenneth Starr's investigation, the role of the media in breaking and then shaping the story, and ways of reforming the system to handle the unacceptable private behavior of future presidents. A provocative book for readers concerned with how our government copes with such a challenge, and an essential reader for courses on the presidency or American government, this collection will stand the tests of both time and rigorous analysis.

Book I provides a detailed survey of seven (7) of the scandals that occupied the press in the final years of Bill Clinton's Governorship and his time in the presidency. Bill was AG of AK 1977-79 and Governor of AK 1983-1992. His two-term presidency was 1993 -2001. Both Hillary and he were very active in making money on the side throughout his time in Arkansas. The Arkansas attorney Vince Foster worked full time while in the White House as a defense attorney for both Hillary and Bill because of the five (5) active investigations going on concurrently during this period. Hillary's subpoenaed records mysteriously disappeared from the Foster office after his death but turned up 22 months later in the upstairs White House private quarters. Hillary denied knowledge of how that happened but an investigative committee said in its final report that she was involved with her private secretary / attorney in this disappearance of the records.

The book covers all the details concerning our philosophy of government, which is modeled on the philosophy of Aristotle but the Obama administration defacto switched it to that of the philosophy of Plato and an emperor who makes his own law. The book provides insight into the bad decisions and incompetence of Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, and Leon Panetta. Clearly, they were more worried about covering up ill-conceived, illegal, and arguably treasonous program than saving the lives of the brave men who put everything on the line for their country in Fast and Furious (border agent) and Benghazi—Chris Stevens, ambassador; Sean Smith, US State Department; Glen Doherty, former Seal; and Tyron Woods, former Seal. The book shows how our national government has become so out of step with our Constitution that men, not laws, now run our country. The Hillary statement after the deaths of the brave Seals stands out here for our form of government. Her question is relevant. “What difference does it make?” It makes a great deal of difference. Read the book to see why.

In this book, we have two major scandals that occurred during the secretary-of-state tenure of Hillary Clinton. Both involved the very security of this nation. Both required Hillary's active involvement to facilitate the scandal. The scandals are called (1) the server--which concerned the private nonsecure server in her home to use as a private email system by her and her staff when she was on official duties as the secretary of state and (2) the Clinton fund--which is a private charitable foundation that is under criminal investigation by the FBI and was used as a pay-to-play operation by the Clintons. The fund grew to $2 billion shortly after she left office.

Pulitzer Prize winner James B. Stewart takes readers behind the scenes in the Clinton White House as it reels in the wake of the Whitewater scandal, Vincent Foster’s suicide, and Paula Jones’ allegations of sexual misconduct. In July 1993, White House official Vincent Foster wrote an anguished lament: “in Washington...ruining people is considered a sport.” Nine days later, Foster was dead. Shock at the apparent suicide of one of President Clinton’s top aides turned to mystery, then suspicion, as the White House became engulfed in an ever-widening net of unanswered questions. Among the confidential matters Foster was working on when he died was the Clinton’s ill-fated investment in Whitewater, an Arkansas land development. Soon conspiracy theories were circulating, alleging that Foster was murdered because he knew too much. And the Whitewater affair, a minor footnote to the 1992 presidential campaign, was suddenly resurrected in the national media. To a degree that left them sunned and at times depressed, the president and the first lady have been buffeted by a succession of scandals, from the first lady's profitable commodities trading to the sexual harassment allegations of Paula Jones. Like his predecessors, the Clinton presidency son found itself engulfed in allegations of scandal, conspiracy, and cover-up. Drawing on hundreds of interviews, many with people speaking publicly for the first time, James B. Stewart also sheds startling new light on these and other mysteries of the Clinton White House. In a fast-paced narrative that ranges from a backwater town in the Ozarks to the Oval Office, from newsrooms in New York and Los Angeles to offices of conservative think tanks and special prosecutors, the result is an unprecedented portrait of political combat as it is waged in America today.

For more than four decades, polarized politics in America has been driven by a vicious scandal machine comprised of partisan politicians, extremists on the left and right, and a sensationalist media energized by bringing public officials down. In this sorely needed book Lanny Davis, who has been in the belly of the beast as Special Counsel to the Clinton White House, explains--starting with historical scandals like Alexander Hamilton's extramarital affairs and moving on to the unsurpassable Watergate and beyond--how we reached this sorry state. Davis tells us how this poisonous atmosphere is damaging not just politics but American society as a whole. Davis also offers hope by revealing how a coalition of centrist politicians focusing on core policies that appeal to the frustrated electorate marooned in the middle can pull us back from the brink.

Twenty years after the Starr Report and the Clinton impeachment, former special prosecutor Ken Starr finally shares his definitive account of one of the most divisive periods in American history. You could fill a library with books about the scandals of the Clinton administration, which eventually led to President Clinton's impeachment by the House of Representatives. Bill and Hillary Clinton have told their version of events, as have various journalists and participants. Whenever liberals recall those years, they usually depict independent counsel Ken Starr as an out-of-control, politically driven prosecutor. But as a New York Times columnist asked in 2017, "What if Ken Starr was right?" What if the popular media in the 1990s completely misunderstood Starr's motives, his tactics, and his ultimate goal: to ensure that no one, especially not the president of the United States, is above the law? Starr -- the man at the eye of the hurricane -- has kept his unique perspective to himself for two full decades. In this long-awaited memoir, he finally sheds light on everything he couldn't tell us during the Clinton years, even in his carefully detailed "Starr Report" of September 1998. Contempt puts you, the reader, into the shoes of Starr and his team as they tackle the many scandals of that era, from Whitewater to Vince Foster's death to Travelgate to Monica Lewinsky. Starr explains in vivid detail how all those scandals shared a common thread: the Clintons' contempt for our system of justice. This book proves that Bill and Hillary Clinton weren't victims of a so-called "vast right-wing conspiracy." They played fast and loose with the law and abused their powers and privileges. With the perspective we've all gained over the past two decades, Starr's story and insights are more relevant than ever.

An invaluable history of an extraordinary presidency, and the chronicle of a generation's political odyssey When in 1997 Bill Clinton appointed Sidney Blumenthal as a senior advisor, the former writer was catapulted into the front lines of the Clinton wars. From his first day in the White House until long after his appearance as the only presidential aide ever to testify in an impeachment trial, Blumenthal acted in or witnessed nearly all the battles of the Clinton years. This major book—part history, part memoir—is the first inside account we have of the presidency of William Jefferson Clinton. The Clinton Wars begins in 1987, when Blumenthal first met Bill and Hillary Clinton. His chronicle of Clinton's first presidential campaign and first term draws on his experiences as confidant to both the President and the First Lady, and is enriched with previously unpublished revelations about both. This remarkable personal interpretation goes far in explaining the polarizing nature of Clinton's presence on the national scene. The narrative of Clinton's second term is even more dramatic. Blumenthal takes special note of the battle that was waged within the media between the President's detractors and defenders, which he expands into a vivid picture of Washington society torn apart by warring factions. But he does not neglect the wars fought on other fronts—in Kosovo, against Congress, and for economic prosperity. His remarkable book ends with the inside story of the fight to elect Al Gore in 2000 and extend the legacy of the Clinton-Gore Administration. Every page of this unrivaled, authoritative book, with its intimate insights into Clinton's personality and politics, attests to Blumenthal's literary skill, profound understanding of politics, and unique perspective on crucial events of our recent past. The Clinton Wars is a lasting contribution to American history.

This pocket guide exposes the secret side of politics, including politicians who risked or ruined their own careers for personal gain. Stories include the MP who liked to party hard and be whipped even harder; the prime minister and his hookers; expenses claims for manure; and the US president who called for all gay men to be castrated. Politicians have mixed scandal with eggs, adult movies, helicopters, drugs, shoes, beef burgers, public toilets, mobile phones, rape, turkeys, orgies, and even ice cream. And it’s not just today’s politicians who are embroiled with scandal. This explosive book reveals the questionable behavior of politicians of yesteryear from around the world.
