Mary Shelley's 1818 novel, "Frankenstein", introduced readers around the world to the concept of raising the dead through scientific procedures. Those who read the book were thrilled by this incredible Gothic adventure. Few, however, realised that Shelley's story had a basis in fact. What she imagined as her modern Prometheus was a serious pursuit for some of the greatest minds of the early 19th century. It was a time when scientists genuinely believed, as Frankenstein did, that they could know what it feels like to be God."Raising the Dead" is the story of the science of galvanism - named after the Italian scientist Luigi Galvini who had conducted the original experiments - a movement that investigated the theory of 'animal electricity', a unifying vital spirit that animates us all, its leaders believing that they stood on the brink of immortality. While they ultimately failed in this challenge, their studies mapped out the nervous system and made valuable and enduring contributions to modern-day medical knowledge and understanding - from theorising the concept of the modern-day defibrillator, and 'deep brain stimulus' which is used to treat personality disorders, to experimental procedures involving the use of microchip-controlled devices to bridge damaged spinal nerves.

Raising the Dead is a groundbreaking, interdisciplinary exploration of death’s relation to subjectivity in twentieth-century American literature and culture. Sharon Patricia Holland contends that black subjectivity in particular is connected intimately to death. For Holland, travelling through “the space of death” gives us, as cultural readers, a nuanced and appropriate metaphor for understanding what is at stake when bodies, discourses, and communities collide. Holland argues that the presence of blacks, Native Americans, women, queers, and other “minorities” in society is, like death, “almost unspeakable.” She gives voice to—or raises—the dead through her examination of works such as the movie Menace II Society, Toni Morrison’s novel Beloved, Leslie Marmon Silko’s Almanac of the Dead, Randall Kenan’s A Visitation of Spirits, and the work of the all-white, male, feminist hip-hop band Consolidated. In challenging established methods of literary investigation by putting often-disparate voices in dialogue with each other, Holland forges connections among African-American literature and culture, queer and feminist theory. Raising the Dead will be of interest to students and scholars of American culture, African-American literature, literary theory, gender studies, queer theory, and cultural studies.
Perhaps no medical breakthrough in the twentieth century is more spectacular, more hope-giving, or more fraught with ethical questions than organ transplantation. Each year some 25,000 Americans are pulled back from the brink of death by receiving vital new organs. Another 5,000 die while waiting for them. And what distinguishes these two groups has become the source of one of our thorniest ethical questions. In Raising the Dead, Ronald Munson offers a vivid, often wrenchingly dramatic account of how transplants are performed, how we decide who receives them, and how we engage the entire range of tough issues that arise because of them. Each chapter begins with a detailed account of a specific case--Mickey Mantle's controversial liver transplant, for example--followed by careful analysis of its surrounding ethical questions (the charges that Mantle received special treatment because he was a celebrity, the larger problems involving how organs are allocated, and whether alcoholics should have an equal claim on donor livers). In approaching transplant ethics through specific cases, Munson reminds us of the complex personal and emotional dimension that underlies such issues. The book also ranges beyond our present capabilities to explore the future possibilities in xenotransplantation (transplanting animal organs into humans) and stem cell technology that would allow doctors to grow new organs from the patient's own cells. Based on extensive scientific research, but written with a novelist's eye for the human condition, Raising the Dead shows readers the reality of organ transplantation now, the possibility of what it may become, and how we might respond to the ethical challenges it forces us to confront.

On October 20, 2006, a middle-aged auto mechanic, Jeff Markin, walked into the emergency room at the Palm Beach Gardens Hospital and collapsed from a massive heart attack. Forty minutes later he was declared dead. After filling out his final report, the supervising cardiologist, Dr. Chauncey Crandall, started out of the room. "Before I crossed its threshold, however, I sensed God was telling me to turn around and pray for the patient," Crandall explained. With that prayer and Dr. Crandall's instruction to give the man what seemed one more useless shock from the defibrillator, Jeff Markin came back to life--and remains alive and well today. But how did a Yale-educated cardiologist whose Palm Beach practice includes some of the most powerful people in American society, including several billionaires, come to believe in supernatural healing? The answers to these questions compose a story and a spiritual journey that transformed Chauncey Crandall.

Do you aspire to be mightily used by God in the demonstration of unusual signs and wonders such as raising the dead? This Holy Ghost-breathed book practically demonstrates how the dead are raised and exhaustively examines the subject of raising the dead in depth. It brims with provocative insights that provide a unique and ground breaking entry into the phenomenon of raising the dead, which for ages have remained an implausible, inexplicable and unfathomable subject. It is jam-packed with divine insights that will take you through a journey out of the convictions of ordinary life of complacency and mediocrity to plunge into the greater depths of the miraculous. The theologically challenging, deeply provoking and incredibly inspiring, hard-to-get revelations encapsulated in this book are set to revolutionise the course of your life for ever. The depth and density of Throne Room revelations it contains requires the reader to make a conscientious effort to digest its morsels, hence it is dangerous to casual Christianity. This is such a provocative kind of book that immediately after you read it, you will feel an irresistibly strong edge to invade death infested territories such as hospitals, mortuaries, psychic prisons, rehabilitation centres and people's homes to raise the dead. It will cause you to explode in the demonstration of signs and wonders that will ruffle the feathers of those comfortable with the status quo and dazzle the minds of those who have pitched their tent in the valley of mediocrity and are sailing their boats through the shallow streams of spiritual understanding. It will launch you into an arena of divine exploits whereby you will raise the dead as if you are waking up people from their slumber. Presiding over a global network of apostolic and prophetic visions, in the capacity of the President of Christ Resurrection Movement (CRM), the Director of Global School of Resurrection (GSR), Senior Pastor of Resurrection Embassy (RE), the founder of Resurrection TV (The Dead-Raising Channel) and the pioneer of the renowned Global School of Signs and Wonders (GSSW), Apostle Frequency Revelator unpacks a plethora of rare but provocative revelations that the dead are raised in this Kairos moment as God is launching men and women into deeper and unexplored territories of the Glory Realm. This book is a wake-up call for radical revivalists and revolutionaries to rise up on this epic transition and take their rightful place on earth by curtailing the mass rampage instigated by the devil through alarming deaths and eradicating the syndrome of death that has gripped the masses for ages. On that note, congratulations for joining the bandwagon of raising the dead and welcome to the world whereby it's naturally supernatural to raise the dead! "This publication has been ordained and certified by heaven. it carries a stamp of God's approval, validated and authenticated by the inscription of his own hand writing, endorsing that the dead should be raised with a sense of urgency in this very hour". The former surgeon writes of his own near-death experience after being diagnosed with Legionnaires' disease and lapsing into a coma. The fragility of health and robustness of imagination merge when this seemingly healthy man's legs collapse suddenly beneath him, propelling him into a 23-day coma triggered by Legionnaire's Disease. Here, Selzer relives his illness, allowing the reader a highly personal glimpse into his delirium as he skates the line between life and death. This tale of survival remains unsentimental as Selzer grounds what was surely a terrifying experience in humor, emphasized by use of third person narrative.

Joe Grey can't believe his human housemate Clyde would even consider volunteering him for the Animal Therapy program at the local nursing home, just when Joe was on the verge of solving the string of burglaries that has Molena Point residents shaking in their collective boots. But it turns out it's Dulcie, Joe's pretty little cat-friend, who came up with the idea of subjecting Joe to the cooing attentions of a bunch of doddering old coots. And she needs Joe's help in getting to the bottom of a conspiracy ... and a very suspicious set of deaths.

" Do you want God to use you mightily to launch the world into greater depths of the miraculous by raising the dead? Have you ever pictured yourself taking centre of the world stage in a global revival that involves mass resurrections of people from the dead? This is the right book for you because God is calling men and women to step out of the convictions of ordinary life of mediocrity and complacency into a realm of overflowing, explosive and electrifying resurrection power. As the Founder of the Global Church and the President of Christ Resurrection Movement (CRM), Apostle Frequency Revelator unpacks a rare but provocative revelation that the dead are raised in this end time season as God is launching men and women into a deeper walk with Him to a special resurrection ministry, to display the fullness of His majesty and glory. In essence we are living in the days of the latter glory, a season whereby we shall witness a heightened degree of miracles, signs and wonder ever recorded in the history of the bible. Mass resurrection of people from the dead is one of the notable miracles, which shall become a common experience to God s children in these end times as God unleashes the fullness of His power to conclude His eternal plan on earth. This is indeed the ripe opportune time to raise the dead! However, there are a multitudes of books written on various Christian subjects today but rarely is there one on the raising of the dead. This is not just an ordinary book; it has been ordained and endorsed by heaven. I believe it carries God stamp of approval, validated and authenticated by the inscription of His own handwriting that the dead should be raised with a sense of urgency. This book is a catalyst that shall take you through a journey out of the convictions of ordinary life of mediocrity and powerlessness to plunge into the greater depths of the miraculous.""
