This conference volume takes a look at the political and economic obstacles in the way of European integration. Attempting to forecast the state of Europe's future, experts discuss such issues as whether the democratic legitimacy of the European Parliament should be strengthened, whether new rules of decision-making are needed for a governing Council or Commission, and whether or not a second chamber should serve the political needs of the individual member states. These topics are fleshed out by a thorough analysis of two dueling sets of economic obstacles.
