Hi! My name is Kylie Nguyen. When I'm not an overworked, spend my spare time practicing and perfecting traditional Vietnamese home cooking. Vietnamese cuisine beautifully encompasses sweet, sour and savory. Its reliance to fresh herbs and vegetables makes it one of the healthiest cuisines in the world, and the cuisine that I strive to keep alive in my kitchen.I never learned how to cook while growing up. My parents were always busy working or fighting about the usual (money, gambling and drinking) to teach me. I finally learned from my mother-in-law when I married young to escape the madness at home.My mother-in-law pushed cooking on me initially for what I believed was to not starve her newly-wedded-culinary-pampered son. That certainly didn't motivate me too much. Then I got hungry. I learned to appreciate her cooking after realizing that there was no way to replicate any of the traditional Vietnamese dishes on my own. Also, if I was going to have children in the future, I will have to keep them alive with sustenance of some kind. I now find cooking a very joyful experience. It's the time in the day when I can shut out the world and bring raw materials together to make something delicious. Either learning from my many mistakes or enjoying good food, I continue to add new knowledge to my culinary repertoire. What I strive for this book is to document some of my favorite traditional Vietnamese dishes. The goal is to quantify "a dash of this" and a "dash of that" into recipes so that they can be accessible to anyone who's also willing to learn. Aside from traditional Vietnamese food, I also include recipes from other backgrounds that I want to try, share or simply have a record of it online for myself. This book is my own personal collection of recipes that I continually update and improve upon. I hope this blog inspire others to get in the kitchen and learn how to cook traditional Vietnamese food because you, too, might be longing for those traditional dishes

A curated Vietnamese word frequency list Are you looking for unconventional ways to speed up the process of learning Vietnamese? Then this book is exactly what you are looking for. Following the Pareto principle (80/20 rule), this book is built to streamline the learning process by concentrating on the core words and sentence structures that make up everyday conversations. The result is a unique vocabulary book with 2000 of the most important Vietnamese words and phrases ordered by their frequency of use. Who this Vietnamese learning book is for: This book is for beginners and intermediate learners of Vietnamese who are self-motivated and willing to spend 15 to 20 minutes a day on learning vocabularies. The simple structure of this vocabulary book is the result of taking all unnecessary things out allowing the learning effort to solely be spent on the parts that help you make the biggest progress in the shortest amount of time. If you are willing to put in 20 minutes of learning every day, this book is very likely the single best investment you can make if you are at a beginner or intermediate level. You will be amazed at the speed of progress within a matter of just weeks of daily practice. Who this Vietnamese frequency list is not for: This book is not for you if you are an advanced learner of Vietnamese. In this case, please go to our website or search for our Vietnamese vocabulary book which comes with more vocabularies and is grouped by topic which is ideal for advanced learners who want to improve their language capabilities in certain fields. Furthermore, if you are looking for an all in one Vietnamese learning book that guides you through the various steps of learning Vietnamese, this book is most likely also not what you are looking for. This book contains vocabularies only and we expect buyers to learn things like grammar and pronunciation either from other sources or through language courses. The strength of this book is its focus on quick acquisition of core vocabularies which comes at the expense of information many people might expect in a conventional language learning book. Please be aware of this when making the purchase. How to use this Vietnamese workbook: This book is ideally used on a daily basis, reviewing a set number of pages in each session. The book is split into sections of 50 vocabularies which allows you to step by step progress through the book. Let’s for example say you are currently reviewing vocabularies 101 to 200. Once you know vocabularies 101 to 150 very well, you can start learning vocabularies 201 to 250 and on the next day skip 101-150 and continue reviewing vocabularies 151 to 250. This way, step by step, you will work your way through the book and your language skills will jump with each page you master. Some final thoughts: Like many language hacking methods, this book is quite unconventional in its approach, but for a driven person that uses it correctly it can significantly speed up the learning process. Vocabulary books have been around for centuries and as with so many things that have been around for some time, they are not very fashionable and a bit boring, but they usually work quite well – and that is what counts in the end.

A warm and welcoming introduction to a vibrant cuisine, with more than 50 easy to make recipes from internationally bestselling novelist Kim Thúy. Between careers as a lawyer and an acclaimed novelist, Kim Thúy ran a celebrated restaurant called Ru de Nam in Montreal. Now, in her first cookbook, Kim combines her beautiful storytelling style with simple and wonderful recipes that are full of flavour: surprising yet comforting, and easy enough for every day. Welcoming us into her close-knit circle, she introduces us to her mother and five aunts, each with her story, each with her secrets, told through the food of the country they had to leave, Vietnam. Starting with easily-prepared base ingredients of sauces, quick pickled vegetables and toasted rice flour, we move on to soups, sautés, vegetables, grilled foods, desserts and more. Sample recipes include: Stuffed Squash Soup; Vermicelli Bowls; Caramel Pork; Calamari, Pork and Pineapple Stir-fry; Fried Lemongrass Fish; and Vietnamese Tapioca and Banana. Also, in collaboration with sommelier Michelle Bouffard, Kim suggests wine pairings for these Vietnamese dishes. Kim says that Vietnamese often display their affection more easily with food than with words. This exquisite book deliciously demonstrates that every meal is an opportunity to show love, and to be grateful for those who sit down to eat with us.
