This book, Profitable Poultry Production, is written to present the case fairly and squarely so the farmer may see the advantages that poultry offers as a means of making money. The book lays special emphasis upon all the important practices and new wrinkles that have been found profitable by professional breeders and poultry-men. It shows how these can be easily applied by any one and what may be expected in the way of results. From cover to cover it is intended as an encouragement and a stimulus to everyone interested in poultry. Not only does it indicate which are the lines likely to be most profitable, but it points out those branches of the business not likely to be remunerative, except under special conditions. With the conviction, therefore, that application of the principles herein laid down will make farm poultry production far more profitable than it at present is, the author commends these pages to the thinking farmers, farmers' wives and farmers' children.

Excerpt from Profitable Poultry: How to Manage, Fowls, Turkeys, Ducks Geese in Health and Disease This work is chiefly founded on information acquired during an extensive experience in the examination of dead poultry and other feathered creatures. Subjects which are only connected with "Fancy Poultry" find no place in this book because they can be better understood, and information regarding them acquired, by studying the exhibits at the Shows and by a careful perusal of matter relating to them in the current poultry papers. In order to successfully manage any kind of stock, a fair knowledge of the requirements of the creatures to be managed is necessary. This knowledge can only be acquired by much study and experience, and then that which is most essential is generally not obtained. This is especially the case as regards how poultry should be fed and housed. One frequently hears the remark, "I give my fowls food of the best quality only." It is not a question of quality so much as it is of quantity and kind. The. point is suitability, because unsuitable food is the chief predisposing cause of disease, which is the principal element of failure in managing poultry, so as to make a profit. It is necessary that this should be made clear to every keeper of poultry. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
