Most teachers enter the field of education to make a difference in children's lives. But many end up, as author Lisa Lucas puts it, "tired, wired, and running in circles." This leads to many new teachers abandoning the profession or to burnout among veteran teachers. Drawing upon her own experiences, Lisa has written a book to help you more successfully manage the frustration of feeling overwhelmed. Written in an informal, conversational tone, Practicing Presence is filled with ideas, exercises, checklists, personal anecdotes, and practices you can use to reframe and establish a mindset that will enhance your focus and engagement in the classroom. When teachers care for themselves deeply and deliberately, they are better able to care for the people that matter most in their lives--their students, friends, and families. Practicing Presence focuses not on doing, but rather on being present in the life of the classroom. Each chapter includes self-care strategies to explore how to self-regulate, nurture self-acceptance, and promote compassion. This book will give readers the feeling of having a personal coach who provides suggestions and routines so that they not only can deal with being overwhelmed, but rise above it.

In the deepest part of our hearts and souls is the desire to love well. Yet in our struggle to do so, we learn that, as Mike Mason puts it, "We are not born with love; it is something we must learn." Now, in Practicing the Presence of People, he helps us launch that learning process. Mason points the way to fresh knowledge and fresh experience, showing how we can discover new things about those we love, understand them from the inside out, tenderly identify with their weaknesses, and celebrate that they too were lovingly made by the hand of God.

Genuine, life-giving spirituality calls us to be our best selves and to bring out the best in others, each and every day. It calls us to care—for God, others, and ourselves. In Practicing Presence, popular spiritual writer Kerry Walters shows us how to integrate care into our daily lives on the road to happiness and holiness. As Walters reveals, we do not need to be professional caregivers to nurture a creative, intimate, and meaningful openness to our deepest selves, to others, and to God. We simply need to be “present” to who God is and who we are as images of God.

The presence of God is meant to be more than just an occasional event during Sunday morning Worship---you are meant to live in God's presence! In The Lost Art of Practicing His Presence, James W. Goll uncovers ancient and nearly forgotten keys to deeper intimacy with Christ Jesus while revealing the ease of working with Christ instead of for Him. Through this book you will rediscover the lost precepts of Biblical meditation, contemplative prayer, and waiting on the Lord and learn how to apply them in your own life. Most importantly, you will gain inspiration for your own intimate walk and the courage to spread the fire His presence to everyone around you! The Lost Art of Practicing His Presence also includes a modern-language translation of The Practice of the Presence of God by Brother Lawrence. An inspiration to James Goll, this 15th-century believer has inspired generations of Christians with his simple life and profound writings on the nature and presence of the Lord.

The first unit concludes by focusing on some special issues that occur in pastoral care (e.g., grief and burnout). Second, it introduces several tools and ideas that can be used practically in a number of pastoral care and crisis situations….These are not offered as a “checklist” agenda for a minister to follow when you visit someone in the hospital or are called upon to intervene in a crisis. Yet they are offered as a way of easing our internal fears about sitting with someone in the midst of their pain and suffering.

This book Practicing the Presence of the Living God intends to be a guide for a spiritual journey. It can be used in a retreat center, at home, or at work when you are able to secure a few moments of quiet solitude and silence. It is structured around seven days - the number of days normally used for a spiritual retreat. However, the seven days can be reduced to a weekend if this is all the time you can afford. It can also be spread to a much longer time if your circumstances do not allow you to have this amount of hours at the same time. All that you need it your total self. God is totally present to you and you should be totally present to God also. It is based on Brother Lawrence of the Resurrection's little book The Practice of the Presence of God. More Information The content of Brother Lawrence's book encompasses a lifelong application that is life changing. Its message is transformative in its utmost clarity and simplicity because it reveals the heart and soul of everyone's life purpose and work - to live joyfully in the presence of God no matter what our circumstances are. In his book Brother Lawrence reveals a very ordinary life that most of us would not really desire and yet as he fulfilled his everyday duties in the midst of the most mundane and tedious tasks, he learned to live the happiest and most rewarding life. With his gracious humility, "he thought...only of doing little things for the love of God, since he was not capable to doing great things." Indeed, he modeled a life lived in the glory of God's love, peace, and joy. No wonder his book was called a "little spiritual classic," a "devotional masterpiece," an "unparalleled classic," and a book "relevant and timeless." Jean Maalouf in his thorough knowledge of Brother Lawrence's teachings becomes an exceptional guide for a retreat with Brother Lawrence.

Practicing Ministry in the Presence of God presents a new paradigm for church ministry--one that is based on fundamental truths of the Christian faith such as the Trinity, union with Christ, and the "already" presence of the Holy Spirit in the church. This new paradigm can help busy pastors avoid "burnout" in the ministry and model Trinitarian, New Testament patterns of ministry to their people. Practicing Ministry in the Presence of God reflects the best of recent New Testament scholarship, sensitivity to the contexts of globalized postmodern cultures dominated by digital media, and practical applications for Christian life, discipleship, worship, and mission.

When my siblings, Betsy, John and Wick, cleaned out my father's lake house, they found and saved for me files of his many sermons dating back to 1955, as well as three unpublished manuscripts that he had submitted to fulfill his Doctor of Ministry degree. Practicing the Presence of God by my father, the Rev. Dr. James R. Bell, is the manuscript that best represents his life-long career as a minister faithfully serving Christ in his community. In his book he tells us how to live more meaningful and exciting lives by bringing the presence of Christ to others and finding guidance on how to do so in the Scriptures. To this day, even while suffering the onslaught of dementia at age 92, he ministers to those confined to the Alzheimer unit of the assisted living facility that has become his home since the death of his wife in 2009.Perhaps we children suffer more watching our father slip away before our eyes. He was a brilliant minister, received his Master of Divinity degree from Princeton Theological Seminary in 1943, served as chaplain in the Pacific during WWII; and for over twenty years served as pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Flourtown, Pennsylvania, with his devoted wife, Betty, by his side. He preached well into his late eighties and carried his Bible everywhere he went. It is with deep gratitude for his life that we share this manuscript with you.Sandra Bell SmythYale Divinity School, M.A.R. 2010

Many Christians long to know God more deeply but find themselves limited by old understandings and ways of knowing. Practicing the presence of Jesus rediscovers the centuries of Ignatian tradition of placing oneself into the gospel story to experience the presence of Jesus in a vital and real way. Each chapter explores another angle to come to the stories, while remaining true to Scripture. Readers will be led through a process of entering the stories themselves, so that they connect to Jesus, human and divine, in the present reality of their daily lives.

If ever we hope to rise above self-centeredness, self-consciousness and self-pity, and move toward greater love of God, neighbor and a proper love of self, we must be assisted by the grace and mercy of our Creator. We are both invited and encouraged to advance our cause through more consistent consciousness of God's presence and prayer that never ceases. This is the essence of LORD HAVE MERCY, an assortment of ideas, observations, prayers, perhaps even an aphorism here or there related to loving and serving one another, seeking God's aid in taming our demons, and reducing our egocentricity via greater awareness and unceasing prayer. These varied commentaries and other pieces were recorded by D. H. "Duey" Renner, a "gradually advancing deliberate Christian," who lives with his wife Carole in Indian Harbour Beach, Florida.
