The serene, low-lying countryside of Suffolk, with its scattered farms, watermeadows and extensive coastline, seems an unlikely area to be associated with ghosts and demons. Yet, a motley array are said to haunt the region. The most famous is the Black Dog, a spectral hound, which in the year 1577 terrorised and killed parishioners in the churches of Bungay and Blythburgh, and continues to exert a strong presence today. Other strange phenomena include phantom coaches, rattling through the countryside at night, drawn by spectral horses and driven by a headless coachman, and the freshwater mermaids who lure young children to their deaths in pools and rivers. Tobias Gill the black drummer haunts the crossroads near Blythburgh where he was hanged for the murder of a servant girl, and Mrs. Short, the 'Queen of Hell', can still raise the hairs on your neck if you wander in the region of Boulge Hall near Woodbridge. Famous characters such as Anne Boleyn, Earl Hugh Bigod, and St. Edmund add an additional lustre to folk tales of the area, and strange happenings occur in many of the churchyards, Suffolk having more churches per acre than almost any other county. This fascinating account of local 'sightings' deals with all the traditional historical legends as well as modern day sightings, and investigates their relevance and significance for the modern age.

Wood Hall, former home of the late Hepzibah Hamilton-Tracy and scene of a distressing drowning, has become a Hotel. Surprisingly, saucy Amelia has been released from prison to earn her living for the first time, as receptionist. Newcomers to the village set tongues wagging, and it is not long before events take a sinister turn. In the second tale, St. Mildreds church is in dire need of repair and the vague but lovable vicar finds himself in his wifes bad books . but maybe fortunes can be turned around through a starchy lady archeologist who longs to research St. Mildreds musty crypt? Discoveries in the bluebell woods may hold a clue. As usual in the Suffolk village of Meadowford Magna, the unexpected just keeps on happening. What the critics say about the Meadowford Mystery series Author Sheila Wright has cooked up a perfect pair of cosy mysteries set in rural Suffolk, England, in the 1920s. Each has its own murder, but the characters and setting overlap. Mystery fans will love these traditional tales, which read like Agatha Christie or P. D. James. Wright knows her craft, and it shows. Blueink Reviews Wright, born in Leicester, England, just after the era she writes about, creates entertaining characters who embody the mindset of societys elitethe quirky personalities and antics of the characters are amusing and keep the tone light-hearted. Foreword Clarion Review Service In the style of Agatha Christie, Wright fashions a story around a mysterious murder in an English country village. Wright follows in the footsteps of the old masters, and the prose lives up to its stellar antecedents. The hired help speak in their cockney dialect, whilst the upper classes converse with the delicate articulation one would expect of someone in their echelon. The characters have depth and presence.. however recognizable, the characters wont be denied their charisma.the colorful images of life in post-Great War England elicit the charm of a bygone era. Once again, a formulaic element comes into play, but when done this well, it adds to, rather than subtracts from, the storyline. For anyone in the mood to solve a murder mystery while taking a pleasurable romp through merry olde England, it would be a crime to miss this one. Seven children and numerous grandchildren. Sheila is an Anglican Reader, taught in village schools for twenty years, and in retirement gardens, paints, sings, plays violin and writes books. Paranormal Technology is the first book to provide a scientific method for ghost hunting, which includes in-depth explanations of what the collected data means. Paranormal Technology offers new techniques, answers questions, and provides experiments, which will help bridge the gap between the paranormal and science. Written in everyday language, it offers keen insights into the nature of paranormal phenomena, the protocols required for collecting evidence that will stand up to scientific scrutiny, and the possible theories that may explain the source of Ghosts. Currently employed test equipment is examined and proper use is covered in great detail. Paranormal Technology is an indispensible aid to any scientific researcher or ghost hunting group, whether you are a beginner, or with many years of experience. This book is not a means to an end, but rather, an invitation to a fresh begining.

A real ghost story should never end perfectly. That is my rule of thumb. After investigating ghost experiences for nearly thirty years, I realised that the finely polished stories told by storytellers and "ghost walkers" were exactly that - polished. In polishing stories we lose the personality of the haunted and indeed the haunter itself, that is why in my books, research papers and articles, I always maintain the original testaments and facts. The stories that I have collected for you now are rough diamonds, totally unpolished and any additions by myself are kept to a minimum and noted clearly." P. [4] of cover.

'The jewel in Waveney's crown'. Bungay, a small market town in Suffolk, owes its sparkling title both to its rich heritage of historic buildings, and its superb setting poised above the lovely water meadows of the river Waveney. Chosen by Roman and then Saxon invaders as an ideal strategic centre, it was dominated after the Norman Conquest by Earl Hugh Bigod who firmly established its importance by building one of the most powerful castles in the kingdom. The town continued to prosper throughout the mediaeval period with its extensive river trade, agriculture, and cloth and leather industries. Despite suffering the Black Death, an attack by the notorious Black Dog, and the 'Great Fire' of 1688, Bungay bounced back, and became such a popular and fashionable resort in the Georgian period that it was nicknamed 'Little London'. Bungay Through Time features images depicting some of the glories of its architectural heritage - its Castle, Benedictine Priory, mediaeval churches and elegant domed Butter Cross - together with bustling street scenes, market trade, and celebrations. Although affected by a changing economic climate, it continues to thrive with a variety of new shops and businesses. But 'it's the people who make the place', and this book illustrates how the townsfolk have always contributed to the popularity of 'Bootiful Bungay'.
