This is R. J. Rummel's fourth book in a series devoted to genocide and government mass murder, or what he calls democide. He presents the primary results, in tables and figures, as well as a historical sketch of the major cases of democide, those in which one million or more people were killed by a regime. In Death by Government, Rummel does not aim to describe democide itself, but to determine its nature and scope in order to test the theory that democracies are inherently nonviolent. Rummel discusses genocide in China, Nazi Germany, Japan, Cambodia, Turkey, Yugoslavia, Poland, the Soviet Union, and Pakistan. He also writes about areas of suspected genocide: North Korea, Mexico, and feudal Russia. His results clearly and decisively show that democracies commit less democide than other regimes. The underlying principle is that the less freedom people have, the greater the violence; the more freedom, the less the violence. Thus, as Rummel says, “The problem is power. The solution is democracy. The course of action is to foster freedom.” Death by Government is a compelling look at the horrors that occur in modern societies. It depicts how democide has been very much a part of human history. Among other examples, the book includes the massacre of Europeans during the Thirty Years' War, the relatively unknown genocide of the French Revolution, and the slaughtering of American Indians by colonists in the New World. This riveting account is an essential tool for historians, political scientists, and scholars interested in the study of genocide.

From R. Barri Flowers, award-winning criminologist and the bestselling author of Murderess on the Loose, Murder of the Doctor’s Wife, Murder at the Pencil Factory, and The Sex Slave Murders, comes the gripping historical true crime short, Murdered by the King of Western Swing: The Beating Death of Ella Mae Cooley in 1961. On Monday, April 3, 1961, thirty-eight-year-old former vocalist Ella Mae Cooley was beaten to death in her home in Willow Springs, an unincorporated area located in Kern County, California. The cruelty of the crime was shocking to local residents in the normally idyllic community. A greater shock was that the murder was committed by the victim’s fifty-year-old husband, Donnell Clyde Cooley, a well-known big band leader, musician, actor, host of a television variety show, and businessman. Ella Mae and Donnell Clyde, who generally went by the name Spade Cooley, were both struggling with accusations of unfaithfulness in their marriage that had produced two children. They were in the midst of a divorce when tragedy struck. Cooley snapped in deciding to end the marriage prematurely by murdering his wife The horrific assault was witnessed by the couple’s fourteen-year-old daughter, Melody, who would testify against her father at his trial. In spite of her untimely presence at the crime scene, Cooley sought to attribute Ella Mae’s death to an accident. This fell flat, as did a short-lived attempt to plead insanity in the death of his wife. Spade Cooley would be convicted of murder and sent to prison for his heinous act of criminality, forever casting a shadow over a successful career in Western swing music and television. See how this tragic story of celebrity, suspicion, and homicidal rage unfolds in the historical crime of passion. Included is a complete bonus historical short tale, The Gold Special Train Robbery: Deadly Crimes of the D’Autremont Brothers, as well as excerpts from the author’s bestselling true crime book, Serial Killer Couples; the riveting historical true crime short, Murder of the Banker's Daughter: The Killing of Marion Parker; and the gripping historical true crime tale, Mass Murder in the Sky: The Bombing of Flight 629.

NONE DARE CALL IT MURDER! It is terrible to contemplate a death at the hands of an assassin, sent with the sole purpose of murder. Not just any kind of murder. Not a murder of passion, or the accidental death from an anonymous robbery for the contents of a wallet or purse; but a secret murder. Homicide for the reason of silence, political or social justifications - murder to shut a mouth FOREVER! This disturbing book examines a number of deaths that stand out like a sore thumb. Maybe the death involved someone famous with a controversial past. Maybe the person was involved in the cut-throat world of politics where power and big money is at stake. Maybe the person was just in the wrong place at the wrong time! World renowned investigator Ronald J. Davis takes an up close look at such controversial deaths as the possibly political murder of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia - The strange circumstances around the death of Princess Diana - The bizarre deaths of UFO investigators - The innocent bystanders of the JFK assassination - Controversial politicians and deadly plane crashes, AND inventors whose groundbreaking technologies may have targeted them for murder by the SILENCE GROUP! Skeptics say that there are no conspiracies. The government, military, intelligence organizations, terrorists, secret groups, etc. don't conspire to murder people. They just die by accident or suicide, but not by conspiracy. So who is ordering these deaths in the first place? Are several groups competing against each other; or does one powerful organization have an ultimate goal of world domination through the use of secret assassinations? COINCIDENCE OR MURDER? YOU BE THE JUDGE!

The Strange Death of JFK

The Strange Death of JFK

These are almost the only facts everyone agrees about the assassination. To this day, many have expressed an opinion but nobody has conclusively proved who killed President Kennedy.

The vast literature generated by President John F. Kennedy's assassination in November 1963 and the search for who killed him hinges on five uncontested facts: a) President Kennedy was shot at 12.30pm local time, in Dallas, Texas on 22 November 1963 while riding through the centre of Dallas in an open-top car. b) The Governor of Texas, John Connally, who was sitting in front of Kennedy, was wounded. c) Kennedy was automatically succeeded by his Vice-President, Lyndon Johnson. d) 80 minutes after the assassination, police arrested Lee Harvey Oswald, a 24-year-old Marxist ex-marine, for Kennedy's murder. e) Two days later, on Sunday 24 November, Oswald was shot dead while in police custody by Jack Ruby, a Dallas nightclub owner. These are almost the only facts everyone agrees about the assassination. To this day, many have expressed an opinion but nobody has conclusively proved who killed President Kennedy. The argument is between those who believe the official version - that Kennedy was murdered by Oswald - and those who believe that Kennedy was the victim of a conspiracy. Chris Lightbown is an experienced investigative journalist who has worked for the Sunday Times, and his masterly book is the first to use the network of high-quality but unknown independent researchers whose conferences, internet sites, lectures and books have largely been ignored by the mainstream media. Lightbown's book is a brilliant piece of investigative reporting. It is also an utterly convincing and gripping narrative that provides the greatest clarity to the dark event that altered the twentieth century.
