"A hard-hitting polemic against religious fundamentalism" - Foreword by Richard Dawkins 'Thousands of people have written to tell me that I am wrong not to believe in God. The most hostile of these communications have come from Christians. This is ironic, as Christians generally imagine that no faith imparts the virtues of love and forgiveness more effectively than their own. The truth is that many who claim to be transformed by Christ's love are deeply, even murderously, intolerant of criticism. While we may want to ascribe this to human nature, it is clear that such hatred draws considerable support from the Bible. How do I know this? The most disturbed of my correspondents always cite chapter and verse.' So begins Letter to a Christian Nation, Sam Harris's hard-hitting rebuttal of religious fundamentalism and blind belief. With deceptively simple arguments, he demolishes the myths on which Christianity was built, challenges believers to open their eyes to the contradictions of their faith and warns us of the dangers of America's ever increasing unification of Church and State. Sam Harris is the author of the New York Times bestseller The End of Faith: Religion, Terror, and the Future of Reason and winner of the 2005 PEN/Martha Albrand Award for First Non-fiction. He is a graduate in philosophy from Stanford University and is now completing a doctorate in neuroscience. He lives in New York. www.samharris.org

When you pray, are you talking to a God who exists? Or is God nothing more than your "imaginary friend," like a playmate contrived by a lonely and imaginative child? When author Sam Harris attacked Christianity in Letter to a Christian Nation, reviewers called the book "marvelous" and a generation of readers---hundreds of thousands of them---were drawn to his message. Deeply troubled, Dr. Ravi Zacharias knew that he had to respond. In The End of Reason, Zacharias underscores the dependability of the Bible along with his belief in the power and goodness of God. He confidently refutes Harris's claims that God is nothing more than a figment of one's imagination and that Christians regularly practice intolerance and hatred around the globe. If you found Sam Harris's Letter to a Christian Nation compelling, the book you are holding is exactly what you need. Dr. Zacharias exposes "the utter bankruptcy of this worldview." And if you haven't read Harris' book, Ravi's response remains a powerful, passionate, irrefutably sound set of arguments for Christian thought. The clarity and hope in these pages reach out to readers who know and follow God as well as to those who reject God.

In this hard hitting and intellectually powerful response to Sam Harris' Letter to a Christian Nation, Michael Patrick Leahy exposes the intellectual dishonesty behind Mr. Harris' brand of Christian bashing atheistic evangelism. Leahy points out in devastating detail the numerous factual misrepresentations in Mr. Harris' book (for instance, debunking Mr. Harris' outrageous claim that 50% of all Americans believe the universe is only 6,000 years old--the facts show the number is 18% at most), and dismantles the simplistic "solutions" proposed by Mr. Harris. Stop violence by ending all faith ? Easier to try to stop the ocean tides. Limit the rights of Christians to participate in the political process ? In the name of "justice" then, Harris would oppress Christians, creating a world wide second class of citizens. Follow the model of fascists in Europe in dealing with the threat of Islamic fundamentalism ? Even fellow atheist Christopher Hitchens calls such a solution repugnant. Seekers of the truth from all faiths should run, not walk, to their keyboard or local book store and purchase Michael Patrick Leahy's Letter to an Atheist. Reviews "Finally, a strong Christian voice addresses the intellectual dishonesty of atheistic evangelism" Christine Schaub, best selling author of The Longing Season, the story of John Newton and Amazing Grace "Michael Patrick Leahy skillfully debunks Harris' charge that serious Christians and Islamic radicals should be equally feared; He also exposes the bigotry and distortion typically shown by secularists when addressing Intelligent Design. More importantly, Leahy shows that Harris' proposed utopia, in which religion is caged and tamed by the secularists, hasalready been shown to produce a world that most do not care to inhabit." Ralph Seelke, Ph.D. Professor, Biology University of Wisconsin-Superior "Michael Patrick Leahy's book is a substantive critique of the work of Sam Harris in Letter to a Christian Nation. Leahy shows how wrong minded and frankly lopsided Harris' view of reality ends up being. Good intellectual stuff." Dr. Bob Harrington Lead Pastor of Harpeth Community Church, Franklin, Tennessee" "A must-read for Christians and non-Christians who truly seek the truth about the toughest long-standing issues confronting humanity. Mr. Leahy has used a logical, step-by-step, reasoned, and well-referenced approach to engage and refute an attack on Christian positions and principles. The material is well worth reading and debating. I was especially impressed by the defense of Christians' track record in opposing slavery. With the recent public attention to the life and contribution of William Wilberforce, this chapter could not be more timely." In 2006, Sam Harris made quite a stir with his best-selling book, Letter to a Christian Nation. In that book, he identified the Christian faith as the source of a host of evils, from Sub-Saharan AIDS to the imminent threat of a theocratically directed nuclear Holocaust. Dr. Daniel Horace Fernald first highlights the numerous gaping holes in Harris presentation, and then proceeds to challenge the very basis of Harris thesis: that Christian faith is by its very nature opposed to reason, science, and civil discourse. Fernald dispels this twisted caricature of Christians and their faith by demonstrating that it is actually the atheist worldview that is irrational, and that rationality itself is impossible without the God described in the Old and New Testaments. Using an approach adapted from presuppositional Christian apologetics, Fernald defends the faith and takes the battle to Harris, by showing the intellectual and moral emptiness of atheism. Dr. Daniel Horace Fernald is an accidental Christian conservative. He was born in New York City, studied French literature at the Sorbonne (University of Paris IV), and concluded his professional training by earning a Ph.D. in Philosophy at Atlantas Emory University. From these inauspicious beginnings, he found his way to Christ through an odd and circuitous path. A former tenured University professor and refugee from the academic asylum, he is the author of over 20 scholarly works. As a Paris-educated New Yorker, and adult convert to Christianity, he has survived numerous grillings by wary church elders, but is none the worse for wear. Dr. Fernald currently serves as Executive Director of The Christian Lyceum, an independent charitable apologetic, education, and hospitality ministry.

The popular and bitter attacks on Christianity continue to escalate in the form of national bestsellers such as The God Delusion, Letter to a Christian Nation, and others. Given the momentum these "new atheists" have gained, it seems as though they are making a powerful case against Christianity. How can those who are believers respond? In The Truth Behind the New Atheism, author David Marshall examines the wrong concepts of God that are being promoted today. Among the questions he deals with are... Is the God of the Bible a cruel savage? Has science refuted the Christian faith? Has the Bible hurt the human race? Is the Christian life based on nothing more than blind faith? As he refutes the critics, Marshall offers powerful arguments in defense of Christianity--arguments that will enable readers to respond to this new confusion with great confidence and biblical accuracy.

Street-Level Apologetics: Where the Reason Meets the Road Originally published in 2008, this rerelease of God Is. is Douglas Wilson's response to Christopher Hitchens's 2007 book God Is Not Great. Wilson shows that Hitchens, too, has a god--Reason--and shows where the late atheist was an inadequate devotee of his deity. This hard-hitting review is full of wit and insight rarely found in even the best of apologetic literature. Wilson demonstrates the fallacies, prejudice, and irrationality of perhaps the most talented of the atheistic writers of recent years and shows how Christianity is the only reasonable, solid, and in fact, necessary, alternative. Wilson and Hitchens went on to engage in a written debate, published in 2008 as Is Christianity Good for the World?, and appeared together in Collision, a film documenting their clash of worldviews and their surprising mutual respect. Douglas Wilson has been the pastor of Christ Church, Moscow, Idaho, for over forty years. He and His wife, Nancy, have three children and seventeen grandchildren. Doug is the author of scores of books, including Letter from a Christian Citizen: A Response to Sam Harris's Letter to a Christian Nation. Sam Harris's first book, The End of Faith, ignited a worldwide debate about the validity of religion. In the aftermath, Harris discovered that most people - from religious fundamentalists to nonbelieving scientists - agree on one point: science has nothing to say on the subject of human values. Indeed, our failure to address questions of meaning and morality through science has now become the primary justification for religious faith. In this highly controversial book, Sam Harris seeks to link morality to the rest of human knowledge. Defining morality in terms of human and animal well-being, Harris argues that science can do more than tell how we are; it can, in principle, tell us how we ought to be. In his view, moral relativism is simply false - and comes at an increasing cost to humanity. And the intrusions of religion into the sphere of human values can be finally repelled: for just as there is no such thing as Christian physics or Muslim algebra, there can be no Christian or Muslim morality. Using his expertise in philosophy and neuroscience, along with his experience on the front lines of our 'culture wars', Harris delivers a game-changing book about the future of science and about the real basis of human cooperation.

Did Jesus Christ really rise from the dead? In The God Delusion (p. 59), Richard Dawkins claims that, "The methods we should use to settle the matter, in the unlikely event that relevant evidence ever became available, would be purely and entirely scientific methods." R. C. Metcalf agrees that science offers one of the strongest lines of relevant evidence, but contends that a comprehensive case should draw from many sources of human knowledge. In Colliding with Christ, Dr. Metcalf adds to the textual and historical evidence in favor of the physical resurrection of Jesus by presenting a thought-provoking new model that explains the events of the first Easter scientifically. If you've ever struggled with thoughts that science has refuted the Christian faith. think again! The evidence is still mounting. The jury is deadlocked. .but Jesus Christ is alive and well! Dr. R.C. Metcalf is author of the Science & Religion bestseller, Letter to a Christian Nation: Counter Point. Dr. Metcalf holds an M.S. in Science Education, a Doctorate in the health professions, and has partially completed a Master's Degree in Theology. He is a member of American Mensa, the American Scientific Affiliation, and the Evangelical Philosophical Society. Dr. Metcalf has held research positions at both the U.S. Food & Drug Administration and the National Institutes of Health. He has been a Christian for over 30 years and lives with his family in Colorado. Christianity offers the world a faith grounded in reason and evidence. Dr. Metcalf offers us a model that explains the physical resurrection of Jesus from cutting edge scientific evidence. He skillfully explains difficult concepts in terms anyone can understand.

Is it ever possible to win a war of ideas? Is spirituality the preserve of the religious? Are there any truths you would rather not know? Would you want to see the end of faith? These are all questions that the ‘four horsemen’ of New Atheism, four big thinkers of the twenty-first century, discussed after meeting in person only once. Their electrifying examination of ideas on this remarkable occasion was intense and wide-ranging. Everything that was said as they agreed and disagreed with one another, interrogated ideas and exchanged insights – about religion and atheism, science and sense – speaks with urgency to our present age. The dialogue was recorded, and is now transcribed and presented here with new introductions from the surviving three horsemen. With a sparkling introduction from Stephen Fry, it makes essential reading for all their admirers and for anyone interested in exploring the tensions between faith and reason. Don't miss OUTGROWING GOD by Richard Dawkins, out now . . .

Have you ever asked the question, does God exist? Have you ever wondered about the source of life on earthand in particular, human life? Creationism, intelligent design, and evolution are three approaches to answering these questions. While evolutionists are adamant that their claim has been proven to be a scientific fact, it turns out that their so-called proof uses an invalid logical argument. Hence, at this point in time, evolution is merely a conjecture and not a scientific fact. Instead of attempting to answer these questions through inductive arguments, Truth and Consequences offers a different logical approach that restates the questions as propositions. A proposition is a statement that is either true or false. Then the consequences of their respective truth values can be analyzed. The first proposition is: an Infinite Intelligent Entity (IIE) exists. If that proposition is true, it leads to a second proposition: the IIE created life on Earth, and in particular, human life. If both propositions are true, it leads to a third proposition: there is life after death. If any of these propositions are false, the bottom line is that it leads to a dead end. Ultimately, if these foundational propositions are true, it leads to a fourth proposition: Jesus lived some two-thousand years ago. By continuing to build on these propositions and follow their conclusions, we can better discuss not only the existence of God as such but also contemporary issues like modern-day threats to Christianity in America.
