The good news (euangelion) of the crucified and risen Messiah was proclaimed first to Jews in Jerusalem, and then to Jews throughout the land of Israel. In Jerusalem Crucified, Jerusalem Risen, Mark Kinzer argues that this initial audience and geographical setting of the euangelion is integral to the eschatological content of the message itself. While the good news is universal in concern and cosmic in scope, it never loses its particular connection to the Jewish people, the city of Jerusalem, and the land of Israel. The crucified Messiah participates in the future exilic suffering of his people, and by his resurrection offers a pledge of Jerusalem’s coming redemption. Basing his argument on a reading of the Acts of the Apostles and the Gospel of Luke, Kinzer proposes that the biblical message requires its interpreters to reflect theologically on the events of post-biblical history. In this context he considers the early emergence of Rabbinic Judaism and the much later phenomenon of Zionism, offering a theological perspective on these historical developments that is biblically rooted, attentive to both Jewish and Christian tradition, and minimalist in the theological constraints it imposes on the just resolution of political conflict in the Middle East.

Vatican II's Declaration on the Relation of the Church to Non-Christian Religions (Nostra Aetate) transformed the Catholic view of the Jewish people and the Jewish religious tradition. Asserting that the Church discovers her link to the "stock of Abraham" when "searching her own mystery," Nostra Aetate intimated that the mystery of Israel is inseparable from the mystery of the Church. As interlocking mysteries, each community requires the other in order to understand itself. In Searching Her Own Mystery, noted Messianic Jewish theologian Mark S. Kinzer argues that the Church has yet to explore adequately the implications of Nostra Aetate for Christian self-understanding. The new Catholic teaching concerning Israel should produce fresh perspectives on the entire range of Christian theology, including Christology, ecclesiology, and the theology of the sacraments. To this end, Kinzer proposes an Israel-ecclesiology rooted in Israel-Christology in which a restored ecclesia ex circumcisione--the "church from the circumcision"--assumes a crucial role as a sacramental sign of the Church's bond with the Jewish people and genealogical-Israel's irrevocable election.

No one who cares deeply about the relationship between Judaism and Christianity can afford to ignore these essays."" --Richard J. Mouw President of Fuller Theological Seminary ""This book is a welcome successor to Mark Kinzer's 2005 groundbreaking work, Postmissionary Messianic Judaism . . . It is the kind of theological inquiry that both the Jewish Roots movement and the Messianic Jewish movement are so greatly in need of. Jennifer Rosner's collaboration in this project is a promising sign that a new generation of Messianic Jewish scholars may be ready to accept the challenge."" --Isaac Rottenberg First Chairperson of the National Council of Churches Office on Christian-Jewish Relations ""This is a significant book. Although it is a collection of articles and addresses, it has a far greater coherence than such collections normally possess. This coherence flows directly from the coherence of Mark Kinzer's life-project--to develop a form of Messianic Judaism that is authentically Jewish, and at the same time truly Messianic in the sense of fully recognizing the centrality of Jesus in God's purpose for Israel and for the world."" --Monsignor Peter Hocken Member of International Doctrinal Commission for Catholic Charismatic Renewal ""Whether one welcomes the Messianic Jewish movement wholeheartedly, with reservations, or not at all, the increasing importance of its voice in contemporary theological discussion is certain. This collection of essays by Mark Kinzer demonstrates again why the issues raised by Messianic Judaism are so fundamental in nature, and why Kinzer himself is widely regarded as the movement's foremost theologian."" --R. In the last two decades N. T. Wright has produced a succession of connected volumes that explore the nature and origins of Christianity. Wright has consistently argued that Christianity, while indebted to Second Temple Judaism, represents a significant development. With major books on method and background, Jesus, and the resurrection already in print, in Paul and the Faithfulness of God, Wright added a comprehensive study of the Apostle to the Gentiles. The Paul Debate is essential reading for those who both agree and disagree with Wright, and for all who want to understand the compelling voice of one of the most read and productive Pauline scholars in the past decades.

Updated and Expanded Edition of a Landmark Text on an Urgent Topic Now updated and expanded, this landmark text reveals God's purposes for his covenant people in these times--and how this revelation is impacting the church. Unlike Ruth in the Old Testament, many of us have turned our backs on the Jewish people, the relatives of the Messiah, and we share the collective guilt for centuries of their persecution. These pages remind us that now, more than ever, we must confess, embrace, and intercede for the chosen people of God, aligning our prayers with God's plan. Once again, Israel and her people are center stage at a crucial moment in world history, and this book shows why the church must effect reconciliation and why our prayers are vital in this hour. If we will make the same covenant pledge to Israel that Ruth made to Naomi, the church will never be the same!

Footprints of Grace: An Intimate Portrayal of the Footsteps of Jesus is a uniquely rich, suspenseful, tender, and compelling idyllic narrative portraying the gracious footsteps of Israel's long-awaited Messiah, the man called Jesus Christ of Nazareth. In fact, this narrative captured, in graphic scenery, the magnificent signs and miracles that Israel's Messiah demonstrated on the poor, oppressed, and downtrodden in bringing release to the sick and disease. Indeed, Dr. Wright's chronicle of Jesus's teaching and healing and His complete devotion to God, is an intimate, spirit-filled narrative with a host of refreshing dramatic expressions not duplicated in any other previous writings. His narrative not only captures the hearts of the people of Israel, but the heart of the reader as well. Therefore, through God's providential design, it is hoped that in every city, town, and village that Jesus, Israel's long-awaited Messiah, traveled, His glorious footprints of grace were forever engraved into the heart and lives of those whom He touched in seeking to save the lost in carrying out His Judean and Galilean ministries.

The panorama begins as Israel performs seven solemn, ritualistic feasts pointing to the dismemberment of his physical and spiritual captivity. The messianic application to Israel’s memorial feasts is central to her preparation to enjoy his long-awaited eternal freedom. In The Seven Feasts of Israel and the Messiah, 2nd Edition, author Dr. Ronald Jean explores the purpose of the different sabbaths given to Israel and how each point to a unique aspect of either creation or redemption. The gospel to the chosen people is explained in a unique and fresh perspective. Tracing the path of their dispersion, punishment, and re-acceptance is clearly mapped. God’s latter-day program for the chosen people can now be seen from clear messages from the Bible. Considering the topic of the feasts through the lens of scripture, Jean describes commonalities and differences of feasts religions recognize, providing an important historical and spiritual viewpoint.

Did you realize?!Our relationship with God, both as individual Christians and corporately as members of a particular church and of the worldwide Body of Christ, is always the relationshipto the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob – to the God of Israel. If we really want to have a healthy relationship with God, both as individuals and as Church bodies, we have to reconsider our relationship to Israel — His people. We have to accept this fact: By a non-negotiable election, God has called Israel to be His chosen people for all eternity, called for a special purpose, loved with a unique love (Dt 32:8ff). And God has decided that all the major blessings to mankind should be transmitted through the Jews. Why? This remains a mystery! This election has never been rescinded. God’s covenant with Israel has never been revoked, not even in the face of Israel’s disobedience and betrayal against God during salvation history. Our reaction to this fact may be jealousy! Why them? Why not our people?! We need a second conversion to accept this fact, a conversion to Israel, in which we say YES to the fact that Israel is “the apple of His eye”. And we should not just merely accept this truth – we should come to rejoice over the election of Israel.

The Vision of Numbers 1, 7, and the Star of David is a revelation of the heart of God for all humanity. The revelation gives a biblical account of the history of Israel and the call of Abraham by God, to father a new nation. The land was covenanted to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob by God as an everlasting inheritance to his "Seed." Through Abraham's son, Jacob, the "Seed," of the woman of Genesis 3:15 would be born. The "Seed," Jesus Christ would be a blessing both spiritually and physically to all humanity, He would bring redemption to all people. The revelation gives deep insight into the Passover and the Exodus from Egypt and introduces the seven Feasts of the Lord which outlines God's Eternal Plan for all humanity, from chaos to eternity. The revelation focuses on Israel; God's chosen people and Time piece in the earth and points to why Israel is the most hotly contested piece of land in the earth. The reason for the conflicts in the Middle East today and why Jerusalem, Israel's Capital City is the most fought-over piece of real estate in the world. Jerusalem has been sought after by all major religions Jews, Muslims and Christians for thousands and thousands of years. God was espoused to Israel and she became his wife. She was unfaithful to Him and had to be punished for her disobedience, idolatry and unfaithfulness to God; therefore, she was uprooted from the land of promise and dispersed to many nations of the world. After two thousand years Israel is back in the land and became a nation on May 14th 1948, fulfilling "The Fig Tree Prophecy," which ushers in the time, the bible calls the "Last Days," or the "time of Jacob's trouble." Therefore, the revelation points to our soon coming King - Jesus Christ. "He is near, even at the door." He will reign in The Capital City, Jerusalem, it is God's resting place for all eternity. It is the Lord's inheritance; where He will reign in Majesty. It is in this future City that all believers of the House that Christ is building will live and reign with Him. Our home, the New Jerusalem will descend from heaven to this great land and Christ will reign with both Jews and Gentiles in that City forever and ever. It is God's will for all people from every nation, country, tribe and culture to be saved; this is God's heart for all people and humanity's only hope - salvation in Jesus Christ. Deuteronomy 4:6 Says: "Hear O Israel: The Lord our God the Lord is one."

Mr. Hutchison's book presents a completely different perspective on the Star of Bethlehem. The theory expounded in this book should become a new standard as well as a major milestone in the long history of research on the Star of Bethlehem. - Ken Elchert, author of The Star: An Investigative Journey in Search of the Star of Bethlehem. (This is the full color edition of the book, a grayscale version also exists.) Did wise men really come from the East seeking Israel's Messiah sometime after the birth of Jesus? The biblical account of the wise men and the star that announced the coming of the Messiah of Israel has inspired and puzzled people for two millennia. Important aspects of Babylonian astronomy seem to be involved in understanding the star's appearing. But in addition, A Sign Over Bethlehem also explores the men and events from a profoundly Jewish perspective. The traditional Jewish names of stars and planets, Jewish symbols, as well as Jewish dates, all seem to be keys to unlocking the mystery of the famous star. The Star of Bethlehem was not the brightest of the heavenly lights, nor was it the most spectacular starry manifestation of all time. However, it was part of the most meaningful set of celestial events in human history. The God of Israel is surprising. His ways are not our ways; his thoughts are not our thoughts. The star gives us a concrete example of God's intervention in the universe. Who were the biblical Magi? Various wise men were important in the history of the vast region to the east of Judaea. Zoroastrian, Babylonian, Greek and even Jewish wise men all played a role there in several successive empires. A possible Jewish connection with the story of the biblical wise men has been long neglected. The Magi who arrived in Bethlehem seem to have been influenced by Judaism. Tens of thousands of Jews lived in Mesopotamia and Iran when Jesus was born. Apparently some kind of connection must have been made between Babylonian astronomy and the Jewish messianic hope. The Magi were seeking God's kingdom centered on the Jewish Messiah, the Righteous One. Jesus, who was born in Bethlehem, is still making himself known. His ways are as mysterious as ever, and his humility is unsurpassed. A Sign over Bethlehem is a greatly abridged version of the third edition of The Lion Led the Way, a book of almost 400 pages. Messiah is an English word that comes from the Hebrew word pronounced maw-shee'-akh. It appears in most English Bibles as the phrase "anointed one." In the Jewish Tanakh (Old Testament), the term is used almost exclusively to denote a king or priest who was anointed with the holy oil of office, or to describe a prophet who was anointed with the holy spirit to be the voice of God to his people. Today, the hope for a coming Messiah-an Anointed One who will usher in an age of universal peace-is shared by many Christians and Jews alike, with one important difference: Jews believe that their long-awaited Messiah is yet to come to establish and reign over a restored kingdom of Israel. Christians believe that Jesus came to Israel during his first advent as the Servant Messiah of Isaiah, a Redeemer who atoned for the sins of Israel and all mankind, and that he will one day return as King Messiah to reign over Israel and the world. The similar but distinct views held by Christians and Jews about the fulfillment of Israel's Messianic hope and the identity of its Messiah are nothing new. As far back as New Testament times, leaders of the Pharisees sent emissaries to John the Baptist, asking if he was the Messiah. John told them that he was not, instead pointing to Jesus as the Lamb of God and Redeemer of Israel, but later revealed his own confusion about the messiahship of Jesus when he sent messengers to ask him, "Art thou he that should come? or look we for another?" Fortunately, the time of the Messiah's coming two-thousand years ago is clearly specified in the Hebrew Bible, in the Book of Daniel, chapter 9, verses 24-27, and, together with what we know about rabbinic Judaism's long and unsuccessful search for a Messiah since then, it is now possible to show that Jesus is the only person in history with a legitimate claim to be the Jewish Messiah.
