Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warns Iran is developing nuclear weapons not just to annihilate Israel but to destroy the West. U.S. Senator Tom Cotton tells us the Iran deal will lay "nuclear trip wires" throughout the Middle East, while a German reporter writes ISIS is planning a "nuclear tsunami" to fulfill its apocalyptic version of Islam. Nuclear alarm bells are sounding throughout a region already filled with several raging wars. Those wars have changed the lives of millions. From a nineteen-year-old Yazidi girl sold into sex slavery, the ten-year-old Christian girl who found it in her heart to forgive her persecutors, or the veteran Kurdish general holding the line against the ISIS--these and so many others have been caught up into the midst of these fiery conflicts and developments that are fracturing the Middle East. The book plots a grid for these major and sometimes bewildering developments transforming the Middle East. Those developments include: In what could be the document defining our generation, the U.S., five other world powers and Iran signed a nuclear deal. Critics charge it all but guarantees the Ayatollahs of the Islamic Republic will become a nuclear power. After its barbaric splash onto the world stage in the summer of 2014, the Islamic State caliphate appears to be gaining strength and followers throughout the Middle East and from such faraway places as Mississippi. Christians in Syria and Iraq stood in the pillaging path of ISIS. Some call what has happened to the two-thousand-year-old church genocide against Christians in the very cradle of Christianity. Russia's leader Vladimir Putin launched the biggest military buildup inside Syria in decades: his warplanes are bombing ISIS. This development signals a much greater role for the former Soviet Union in the region and evokes Ezekiel's prophesied war of Gog and Magog. These developments affect your life. What happens in the Middle East can shake stock markets around the world, lead to a greater Western military intervention in the region, spark a confrontation between major powers or flood immigrants into your country. ISIS, Iran and Israel attempts to answer the question: What You Need to Know about the Mideast Crisis and Upcoming Mideast War.

This volume is based on the assumption that Iran will soon obtain nuclear weapons, and Jacquelyn K. Davis and Robert L. Pfaltzgraff Jr. develop alternative models for assessing the challenges of a nuclear Iran for U.S. security. Through three scenario models, the book explores the political, strategic, and operational challenges facing the United States in a post–Cold War world. The authors concentrate on the type of nuclear capability Iran might develop; the conditions under which Iran might resort to threatened or actual weapons use; the extent to which Iran's military strategy and declaratory policy might embolden Iran and its proxies to pursue more aggressive policies in the region and vis-à-vis the United States; and Iran's ability to transfer nuclear materials to others within and outside the region, possibly sparking a nuclear cascade. Drawing on recent post–Cold War deterrence theory, the authors consider Iran's nuclear ambitions as they relate to its foreign policy objectives, domestic politics, and role in the Islamic world, and they suggest specific approaches to improve U.S. defense and deterrence planning.

THE DEFINITIVE BOOK ON ISIS Jay Sekulow, one of America’s most influential attorneys, closely examines the rise of the terrorist groups ISIS and Hamas, explains their objectives and capabilities and how, if left undefeated, their existence could unleash a genocide of historic proportions. Recently, the world has been shaken by gruesome photos and videos that have introduced us to the now infamous terrorist group known as ISIS. The world’s wealthiest and most powerful jihadists, ISIS originated within Al Qaeda with the goal of creating an Islamic state across Iraq and Syria and unrelenting jihad on Christians. Separate from ISIS, the terrorist group Hamas has waged an equally brutal war against Israel. Both groups, if left undefeated, have the potential to unleash a catastrophic genocide. Rise of ISIS gives a better understanding of the modern face of terror, andprovides an overview of the laws of war and war crimes. These laws differentiate between the guilty and innocent, and explain why the US military and the Israeli Defense Forces are often limited in their defensive measures. The authors’ firsthand experience, including multiple appearances before the Office of the Prosecutor, International Criminal Court at The Hague, along with direct contact battling jihadists during operation Iraqi Freedom lends insight into this important geopolitical issue. A must-have for anyone who wants to better understand the conflict that exists in the middle east, this well-researched and fully annotated volume is invaluable in revealing how this new brand of terrorism poses a very real threat to Americans and the world at large. It also serves as a guide to what we as individuals—and as a nation—can do to stop this escalating violence, prevent jihad, and protect Israel and America from this imminent threat.

"As Iran persists in its defiance of international pressure and continues to enrich uranium, and as the Bush Administration enters the final stages of its tenure, the difficulty of the international community in stopping Iran's nuclear progress has become increasingly apparent. Indeed, Iran has made good use of both its own strengths and the weaknesses of its rivals to further its nuclear aspirations, and has processed with little practical interference toward this goal. While the need for harsher sanctions and other diplomatic or economic options is still a refrain sung by the leading international actors, the possibility of a military option by the United States and/or Israel - while clearly a problematic option - has begun to appear int he headlines with increasing difficulty. The corollary to the debate on how to stop Iran before it obtains nuclear weapons is that Iran may in fact eventually obtain this capability. The five essays that comprise Israel and a Nuclear Iran: Implications for Arms Control, Deterrence, and Defense examine the principal challenges for Israel associated with Iran's acquisition of nuclear weapons. The essays explore Iran's potential deployment of a nuclear capability; the implications of a nuclear empowered Iran with regard to arms control and non-proliferation efforts in the nuclear realm; the difficulty of fostering a stable Israel-Iran nuclear relationship; the critical role of missile defense; and a realistic defense of Israel's home front against the threat of a nuclear Iran. Written by INSS researchers and other experts, the essays bridge the analytical and the prescriptive, and include recommendations for Israel if it is confronted with the reality of a nuclear Iran. Challenging certain traditional positions, the authors consider what will be required of Israel and others should the international community fail in its efforts to stymie the rise of an Iran endowed with nuclear weapons capability." -- p. 4 of cover

This book focuses on the crises facing Al Qaeda and how the mass killing of Muslims is challenging its credibility as a leader among Islamist jihadist organizations. The book argues that these crises are directly related to Al Qaeda’s affiliation with the extreme violence employed against Muslims in Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan and Pakistan in the decade since 9/11. Al Qaeda’s public and private responses to this violence differ greatly. While in public Al Qaeda has justified those attacks declaring that, for the establishment of a state of ‘true believers’, they are a necessary evil, in private Al Qaeda has been advising its local affiliates to refrain from killing Muslims. To better understand the crises facing Al Qaeda, the book explores the development of Central Al Qaeda’s complex relationship with radical (mis)appropriations and manifestations of takfir, which allows one Muslim to declare another an unbeliever, and its unique relationship with each of its affiliates in Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan and Pakistan. The author then goes on to consider how the prominence of takfir is contributing to the deteriorating security in those countries and how this is affecting Al Qaeda’s credibility as an Islamist terror organization. The book concludes by considering the long-term viability of Al Qaeda and how its demise could allow the rise of the even more radical, violent Islamic State and the implications this has for the future security of the Middle East, North Africa and Central/South Asia. This book will be of much interest to students of political violence and terrorism, Islamism, global security and IR.
