This book is written from the authors's teaching experience within MBA programs, where the focus has been on the realities of the students and their striving to be better able to succeed in those realities. This has lead to the combining of certain issues, which present themselves to the manager as dimensions of complex problems. Those issues are traditionally discussed within separate academic disciplines, in which the authors are well-versed, which are addressed once the starting-point has been found in managerial reality. There is a reason why these topics present themselves to the manager in unison: they do interact, in theory as well as in practical reality. Those issues are not just interesting to ponder over, but they require solutions and it is especially in the solutions that they have to connect. Leadership is an increasingly important subject because of the challenges which require leadership of some sort. Those challenges are more often than not characterized by change or the need for change. Change can be something that happens to someone, or something which is conducted and benefited from; the later case is where people show leadership in being on top of the change. On top of the change, one has to benefit from what is not in change, such as the capabilities and competencies that form the building blocks of a new strategy. Strategy and operations are increasingly expected, both by forces outside of the organisation as well as by forces from within it, to act from a sense of responsibility. Increasingly, various elements in society call for such responsibility, while also issues have arisen which involve management in far reaching challenges, even to life itself on this planet. This closes the circle for this book, as those challenges require leadership of a type not common in the past.

This book on Thesis Writing for Master’s and Ph.D. program focuses on the difficulties students encounter with regard to choosing a guide; selecting an appropriate research title considering the available resources; conducting research; and ways to overcome the hardships they face while researching, writing and preparing their dissertation for submission. Thesis writing is an essential skill that medical and other postgraduates are expected to learn during their academic career as a mandatory partial requirement in order to receive the Master’s degree. However, at the majority of medical schools, writing a thesis is largely based on self-learning, which adds to the burden on students due to the tremendous amount of time spent learning the writing skills in addition to their exhausting clinical and academic work. Due to the difficulties faced during the early grooming years and lack of adequate guidance, acquiring writing skills continues to be a daunting task for most students. This book addresses these difficulties and deficiencies and provides comprehensive guidance, from selecting the research title to publishing in a scientific journal.

The recent growth of interest in the systematic study of management has transformed a once neglected area of research into one that now attracts a huge number of postgraduate students. Despite this, there has been a distinct lack of research guides tailored specifically for management studies. Designed as a comprehensive introduction to the main phases of a research project, this textbook fills that void. It leads students from the very first stage of initiation through to final publication, considering the nature of research skills and the fundamental elements of the research process, whilst exploring the institutional context in which management research is carried out. Taking current debates and the surrounding philosophical and strategic issues in hand, this book combines the key theories with the best practical advice to offer a completely rounded introduction to the topic. It includes guidance and specific reference to real management research projects, as well as case examples, activities and further reading lists, and is essential reading for anyone undertaking a management studies research project.

Entrepreneurs have led economies out of downturns in the last 100 years and evidence points to this trend continuing into the future. In fact, regardless of country or economic conditions, entrepreneurial enterprises are on the rise. High-tech start-ups, where innovation, dedication, collaboration, and pure genius align into a successful enterprise, will likely see good times—if they start up right. However, many young researchers hesitate to set up their own company. Written by an electrical engineer with more than nineteen years of successful business experience, Entrepreneurship for Engineers covers every aspect you must master to become a savvy entrepreneur. The author provides coverage of the fundamentals of global economies, accounting, finance, and quantitative business analysis, because ordinary engineers usually lack these necessary survival skills. Outlining a systematic preparation process that will build a great reputation in the commercial marketplace, the author answers: How to start up a company How to create product lines How to collect venture capital How to write successful R&D proposals How to apply forward thinking How to keep cash flowing in a small firm Typical MBA courses include the following curricula: economics, accounting, finance/investment, marketing, and human resources, with courses like Managerial Communications and Quantitative Business Analysis (Applied Mathematics), and finally Strategic Management and Business Ethics. Engineering curricula seldom includes any of this. Supplying almost all the knowledge necessary for operating a corporation, above and beyond what you may find in an MBA program, this book uses an approach to business that is just as disciplined and rigorous as any approach to engineering.
