From November 1966 to December 1967, the town of Point Pleasant, West Virginia, was overtaken by strange events. There were numerous reports of a large winged creature; luminous objects appeared frequently in the night sky and the townspeople became the target of harassment by men dressed in black. But that doesn't even scratch the surface of the high strangeness going on in the Ohio Valley.Written by Mark A. Randall and Steve Ward. Illustrated by Mark A. Randall

Strangeness and Spin in Fundamental Physics is dedicated to the discussion of the role played by two subtle and somehow puzzling quantum numbers, the strangeness and the spin, in fundamental physics. They both relate to basic properties of the fundamental quantum field theories describing strong and electro-weak interactions and to their phenomenological applications. In some instances, like the partonic spin structure of the proton, they are deeply correlated. The many puzzling results recently obtained by measuring several spin asymmetries have stimulated gigantic progresses in the study of the spin structure of protons and neutrons. Intense theoretical activity has discovered new features of non-perturbative QCD, like strong correlations between the spin and the intrinsic motions of quarks inside the nucleons. The purpose of this publication is that of providing a complete, updated and critical account of the most recent and relevant discoveries in the above fields, both from the experimental and theoretical sides.

The figure of the stranger is in serious need of revision, as is our understanding of the society against which the stranger is projected. Under conditions of globalization, inside/outside markers have been eroded and conventional indicators of 'we-ness' are no longer reliable. We now live in a generalized state of strangeness, one consequence of globalization: we no longer know where our community ends and another one begins. In such circumstances it is often the case that neighbours are the nearest strangers. Strangeness occurs when global consciousness outstrips global connectivity and this means that we need to rethink some core elements of globalization theory. Under conditions of strangeness the stranger is a 'here today, gone tomorrow' figure. This book identifies the cosmopolitan stranger as the most significant contemporary figure of the stranger, one adept at negotiating the 'confined spaces' of globalization in order to promote new forms of social solidarity and connect with distant others.

IF YOU THOUGHT THAT THE X-FILES WAS ONLY FICTION, THINK AGAIN! For as long as extraterrestrial and paranormal phenomena have been investigated, the official government response to any events deemed "otherworldly" or unexplainable has been well documented: DENIAL. Not because they aren't interested in UFOs, monsters, and psychic abilities -- but because they have their own secret agendas for using this knowledge. In this thoroughly researched compendium of conspiracies and cover-ups, the remarkable findings that have been documented (and supposedly debunked) by the governments of the United States, Great Britain, and the former Soviet Union are finally revealed, including Attempts by the U.S. Air Force to build a fleet of nuclear-powered flying saucers... The British military's files on the Loch Ness monster and other mysterious beasts... The Cold War race between the CIA and the KGB to create the perfect psychic spy/assassin... The real story behind the enigmatic "Men in Black," who terrify UFO witnesses into silence... For anyone who wants to know the truth -- or the truth behind the truth -- Strange Secrets is the ultimate resource to understanding exactly what the government doesn't want us to know -- and why they want to keep us in the dark.

An incident from my life:When I was 16 I came home to find a man in our house who was reading the newspaper with the pages all the way open, something only fathers could do. My brother mike was 3 years younger than I was, and he had often brought a friend home then went to another friends house to play. When my parents came home they ignored him and when Mike came home he ignored him. In the morning he made us all banana pancakes. I asked and his name was Louie Valdez I had thought he was a man, but he was my age and went to my high school. Later he asked me to take him to a house on Walnut Creek Parkway where we went inside and he got a small bag with shaving stuff I ot. He told me there were so many people who lived there and he had to find another place to stay. Many years later my brother and I talked and he told me Louie had asked him to take him to a house and got shaving stuff there and told him the same story. The house looked like a model home with no evidence that people actually lived there. I never knew where he slept when he stayed with us. He said he came from Cuba. we had a pool and he brought a poodle and it fell in and later it died, though I think it was not from being in the water for a minute. I think someone got it cheap from someone who bought it and was not happy with it. Louie lived with us for more than a year, closer to two and when we graduated from high school he went into the Navy. He sent me a couple letters and a photo of him in his uniform. I remember in one letter he told me the Navy wanted to circumcise him and it had been really painful. I went to local community college for two years and then I went into the Army.I like Louie and we became friends and I wish I knew what happened to him.. One time mother said dad said I should tell Louie to not wear so skimpy of a swim suit in the pool and I told her she should tell Mike to tell him. Later when I was involved with UFOology and was reading about high strangeness things that had happened to people in their childhood, I remembered about Louis.Next time I visited her I asked about when Mike had brought him home, that they said nothing and let him live with us so long, when no one knew where he came from. She answered, 'Mike didn't bring Louie home, you brought Louie home."When I went into the Army he took the two poodles I had and later sent me a photo of them in the patio of a seaside motel that his aunt and uncle had in Cuba. When he stayed with us It was the 60's in a suburban tract house. We all watched 'Leave it to Beaver together and went to church on Sunday. If my parents thought I had brought a man home to live with us and never said a word about it., that is High Strangeness. We did not lock doors in those days but to think of Louie walking into the house and reading the paper while waiting for us to get home, when none of us knew him, and his having an explanation for not living else where when nobody asked for it. My parents had failed to discipline Mike many times when he got in trouble, so I just thought that letting him have a friend stay was just their way of not dealing with things. Louie was a nice person and I did not mind him there being there but they were parents and thought I, a 16 year old girl, had brought him home and let it go without even questions. That is just one thing strange that happened in my life.
