More and more horse owners are turning to alternative therapies to enhance the health and well-being of their equine companions. Many believe - as Jenny Morgan does - that horses kept in a healthy, all-natural environment have fewer health problems. Thus, this essential reference for horse owners begins with preventive care. Natural Healing for Horses teaches how to know a horse thoroughly, from forelock to fetlock; understand a horse's moods and immediately recognize the slightest change in appearance or behavior; build a stabling system that has proper space, drainage, and safety; select the ideal pasture location; and develop affordable and natural routines for exercising, feeding, watering, and grooming horses kept in a stable or at pasture. The second section of this book addresses specific health issues and suggested therapies, including herbal and homeopathic treatments, chiropractic, acupuncture, massage, and aromatherapy, as well as standard veterinary treatments. Whatever the need, Morgan provides all the information necessary to choose the right natural treatment to improve a horse's general well-being or solve particular health problems.

This book is a story of what I have learned and important points that are not always stressed when you learn about horses and learn how to ride. It also goes on to share the ability of the horse to empower us and how they have over the course of my life always provided a constant source of strength and support. There has never, and I can truly say never a day so far that I have gone to see my horse or go on a ride and I felt worse than before I went to go ride. I’m not going to include trips to the hospitals with that thought, but that is probably the only exception. I feel very fortunate and blessed that I am able to have horses in my life and such a passion for riding horses within me that it remains a constant in my daily life.

Wendy Beth Baker’s The Healing Power of Horses is devoted to the world’s greatest horsepeople, the Oglala Lakota Indians of Pine Ridge, South Dakota. She begins the book by sharing the philosophy of these great horse-loving people: “There are those who feel the sun rises and sets on the back of a horse, and no matter what obstacles life sets in their way, they never dismount.” The spirit and fortitude of the Lakota Indians inform Baker’s words as she describes how this once-nomadic tribe came to view the horse as sacred and assigned it great significance in their culture, religion, and lifestyle. The Indians who live on the Pine Ridge Reservation have grown spiritually and as a community through their relationship with their horses, and it is through this connection to the natural world that the power of healing and ultimately, health, flows. With photography by Hope Vinitsky, The Healing Power of Horses tells the individual stories of over a dozen Lakota Indians and how horses have affected each of their lives. Baker was able to interview each of these inspiring individuals for inclusion in this book. The empowering stories told come from Wayne Waters, Marlin “Moon” Weston, Eugenio White Hawk, Wendell Yellow Bull, Aldeen Twiss, Phillip Jumping Eagle and Billy, Dale Vocu, Emma and Shelly Waters, Wilmer Mesteth, Vernell White Thunder, Pat Heathershaw, Lester Waters, and the Carlows. While the stories of each of these exceptional men and women are different, the common denominator in each is the horse’s transformative power to heal their minds, spirits, and bodies. These are stories of artists, athletes, and common noble folk, all of whom have struggled to overcome life’s many obstacles to thrive and become better people. The author’s intention in this book, as she describes in the final section “The Future of the Lakota Horsepeople,” is to have her readers gain a better understanding of horses in Lakota culture while at the same time affording some of the Lakota people an opportunity to reconnect with their cultural identity. In reading this book, it is clear that the Lakota people have preserved the emotional power of their ancient culture and strength as a people by maintaining their connection to horses, animals that they deeply love. Fiercely loyal to the United States, the Lakota horsepeople are a strong, proud, and brave community who have much to teach all people about life and the pursuit of healing.

The Horse Connection Interactive Riding and Assisted Riding For Children & "Adult Children At Heart! " The Inspiration for "Horse Connection" was inspired by my love of horses & growing up in a Circus Family that encouraged my love of animals, especially Horses! This "Connection" with Horses was encouraged by my parents and early in my life my grandparents who grew up with farm animals. By age seven, my Dad and Grandpa Bell, went to the local "glue factory (this was 1952 and Horses then were sent to Slaugther Houses when they were old or crippled. They came home in a Farm Trailer and there was Dolly, who I knew was the prettiest horse I had Ever Seen!. During the summers of these Years, I had the privilege to Travel with my Parents on Polack Bros Shrine Circus: I had my first "Horse Job" at seven years! A loving trainer named Sonny Moore trained Dogs and ponies to work together in a Funny Way and his act was named "Sonny Moore's Roustabouts." This was more than fun ...it was a privilege that I learned to groom, water, put on harnesses and feeds these talented animals! These Early "Horse Experiences" influenced my Dream to work with Children and Horses in a way that was not Only Learning but Fun!! This book is a description and depicts Ways that "That Horses Nurture Children, Reduce theirs Fears, Increase Confidence, and have a New Friend to Love.. The Horse! My parents continued to nurture my Love of Horses when they "semi retired" from the Circus Trapeze Life they had known for over Fifty Years, and we moved into our Home in Duncanville Tx. There a Horse Named Tinkerbell taught me to ride all over again and my high school friend Vicky & I rode all over Duncanville and surrounding places! Tinkerbelle had one beautiful baby horse named Missy and she was a joy to help train. Then it was time to go to college and they were sold to wonderful families! 'The Heart of the Horse, Healing the Heart of the Human" is shown in pictures and stories throughout this book! Enjoy the stories and hope they will touch a place in your Heart & get to know the Horses in my Life who have now helped, healed or taught many many kids and adults to not only Ride but to love and appreciate the Horse as a Healing, Understanding, and Connecting animals to our Hearts!
