ENGLISH DESCRIPTION Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is the first volume of British author J.K. Rowling's now classic series of fantasy novels. "With trembling hands, Harry turned over the envelope and saw a purple wax seal with a coat of arms: a lion, an eagle, a badger, and a snake, all surrounding a large letter H." Harry Potter has never heard of Hogwarts before, until letters start falling at the doorstep of 4 Privet Drive. The address is written in green ink on a yellowed parchment envelope with a purple wax seal stamped on it, and his repugnant aunt and uncle rush to remove and hide them. Later, on Harry's eleventh birthday, Rubeus Hagrid, a gigantic man whose eyes sparkle like black beetles, shows up with extraordinary news: Harry Potter is a wizard, and he has been awarded a place at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. An incredible adventure is about to begin!
We find Harry Potter y la piedra filosofal in Spanish (1999), Harry Potter e la pietra filosofale in Italian (2001), Garri Potter i filosofskii kamen in Russian (2002). The Hindi translation, Hăirī Pâtara aura pāratthara (2003), ...

The concept of transfer covers the most diverse phenomena of circulation, transformation and reinterpretation of cultural goods across space and time, and are among the driving forces in opening up the field of translation studies. Transfer processes cross linguistic and cultural boundaries and cannot be reduced to simple movements from a source to a target (culture or text). In a time of paradigm shifts, this book aims to explore the potential and interdisciplinary power of transfer as a concept and an analytical tool to account for complex cultural dynamics. The contributions in this book adopt various research angles (literary studies, imagology, translation studies, translator studies, periodical studies, postcolonialism) to study an array of entangled transfer processes that apply to different objects and aspects, ranging from literary texts, legal texts, news, images and identities to ideologies, power asymmetries, titles and heterolingualisms. By embracing a process-oriented way of thinking, all these contributions aim to open the ‘black box’ of transfer in the widest sense.
We chose Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone and its translation into Spanish, Harry Potter y la Piedra Filosofal, to exemplify this. Similarly, professional translators usually specialise in a certain domain of translation, ...

The correct interpretation of Multiword Units (MWUs) is crucial to many applications in Natural Language Processing but is a challenging and complex task. In recent years, the computational treatment of MWUs has received considerable attention but there is much more to be done before we can claim that NLP and Machine Translation (MT) systems process MWUs successfully. This volume provides a general overview of the field with particular reference to Machine Translation and Translation Technology and focuses on languages such as English, Basque, French, Romanian, German, Dutch and Croatian, among others. The chapters of the volume illustrate a variety of topics that address this challenge, such as the use of rule-based approaches, compound splitting techniques, MWU identification methodologies in multilingual applications, and MWU alignment issues.
