****The nation's favourite cartoonist - Express**** Brilliantly witty and full of irreverent fun, this compilation is the ideal addition to your Giles collection! The 2019 collection takes a wry look at how Giles observed the most seismic and superficial events of his time. From January to December throughout the years, the common threads of life then and now are scrupulously interrogated under his pen. Treating perennial occupations such as Christmas parties, royal weddings and petrol prices with the same rigour as space travel, nuclear anxieties and perpetual debates about the EU, Giles investigates the weighty and the whimsical in equal measure. Fans of Giles will be thrilled to receive the latest annual treat from the archives of the celebrated cartoonist of the once biggest selling daily newspaper in the world, the Daily Express, whose work won him huge admiration and accolades including being voted the best cartoonist of the 20th century.

****The nation's favourite cartoonist - Express**** Giles enthusiasts will delight in this brand-new collection of classic cartoons filled with his inimitable style of dry wit and British eccentricity. The 2020 annual takes a look at the tiny details which the 20th century's leading cartoonist filled his artworks. Mischievous parrots, tortured teddy bears and hapless hounds can all be found getting into the oddest of scrapes to the side of the main action. Centring on the archetypal dysfunctional cartoon family, Giles expert John Field encourages you to look beyond the main action and revel in the detail. Fans of Giles will be delighted to receive the latest annual compilation featuring 150 cartoons to enjoy from the archives of one of the most celebrated cartoonists of the once biggest selling daily newspaper in the world, the Daily Express, whose work led to him being voted the best cartoonist of the 20th century.

* The first volume to explore the staggering collection of Jane and Kito de Boer* Functions as an introduction to Indian modernism, with strong representations of several individual artists as well as major movementsModern Indian Painting presents a survey of Indian painting from the late 19th century to the present day, drawn from the private collection of Jane and Kito de Boer remarkable for its broad historical scope and wide range of artists. The book clearly delineates major developments over a long period of time, while contextualizing them with previously unpublished examples by major artists. The first part of the book features the de Boers talking about their passion for India and Indian art. The second part presents a history of modern Indian painting, with essays on the Bengal School, the so-called 'Dutch Bengal' artists, the Calcutta naturalists, the portrait painters of the Bombay School in the early 20th century, the Progressive Artists Group and the post-Independence artists of Bengal. The de Boer collection also contains strong representations of a few individual artists, such as Chittaprosad, Ganesh Pyne, Ramachandran and Broota, whose works are explored through essays and interviews. The fact that many of these chapters draw almost exclusively on the de Boer collection is a testament to its incredible size and breadth. In this volume, we hope to show how the collection takes a dispassionate view of the global status of Indian art, while at the same time revealing a commitment and long-term engagement with the country and its creativity. With contributions from Partha Mitter, Giles Tillotson, Yashodhara Dalmia, Sona Datta, Sanjay Kumar Mallik and Rob Dean.

Garden of Memories, curated by Giles Peterson, brings together heirloom and contemporary Pacific quilts from Petersons collection and uses these precious objects as the starting point for exploring contemporary craft and object-making by extending this traditional form into creative interpretations and new works by artists from across Asia and the Pacific. Six quilts from Aotearoa and the Pacific are at the centre of the exhibition and this complementing publication. Petersons personal connection to each quilt is explored through narratives, along with the idea of quilts as domestic objects, transmitters of knowledge, status objects, items for comfort, survival and as works of art. Garden of Memories features work by Shona Pitt, Sheena Tavairanga, Lisa Reihana, Vea Mafileo, Reina Sutton, Lina Pavaha Marsh, and Ken Khun. The legacy of this project is extended through this exhibition catalogue, developed with Uxbridge Malcolm Smith Gallery in Howick, Auckland. The publication includes profiles on each of the artists involved, high-quality documentation of all components of the exhibition and extended narratives by Peterson related to each quilt

Giles Constable has spent a career analysing these forces and impulses and this new collection draws together his major findings on a host of topics including frontiers, metaphors, religious life and spirituality, and concepts of political theory.

The Legacy of J William Fulbright

The Legacy of J William Fulbright

This insightful collection of essays details the political life of one of the most prominent and gifted American statesmen of the twentieth century.

This insightful collection of essays details the political life of one of the most prominent and gifted American statesmen of the twentieth century. From his early training in international law to his five terms in the US Senate, J. William Fulbright (1905--1995) had a profound influence on US foreign policy, and his vision for mutual understanding shaped the extraordinary exchange program bearing his name. As a senator for Arkansas for thirty years and the longest serving chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Fulbright was one of the most influential figures of United States politics. His criticism of US involvement in Vietnam exemplified his belief in the effective management of international norms by international organizations -- including the United Nations, which was the subject of his first bill in Congress. Yet alongside his commitments to liberal internationalism and multilateral governance, Fulbright was a southern politician who embraced the interests of the region's conservative white population. This juxtaposition of biased and broad-minded objectives shows a divide at the center of Fulbright's vision, which still has consequences for America's global policies today. This multidimensional volume covers Fulbright's development as a national and global voice on foreign relations, as he wrestled with the political controversies of the US South during the civil rights movement, worked with and challenged executive power, and shaped the Fulbright program for educational exchange.
