This guidebook is the ideal companion for walkers who want to explore the western section of Derbyshire's White Peak area. Starting in towns and villages including Castleton, Ilam, Buxton, Tideswell, Hartington and Longnor, these day walks are perfectly suited for year-round trips to the Peak District and are suitable for walkers of all abilities. Across 40 day walks, this guidebook offers a range of routes that showcase the best of the Peak District landscape: rolling green hills rising up to limestone ridges, deep dales with meandering rivers, and limestone caves and pinnacles. There is plenty of history to explore too, with many walks visiting historical sites from Neolithic, medieval and industrial periods. Most of the walks range between 4 and 9 miles and can be enjoyed in 2-4 hours walking. As several start from the same car park or village, many walks can be combined for longer days out. Each walk features clear OS mapping and detailed route description interspersed with insights into the area's history, geology, art and culture, making this a brilliant guide for both navigation and learning about the Peak District.

During the gilded age of rail travel in the late 1800s, Colorado Springs became one of the primary portals of westward expansion and a hub for both passenger and freight traffic. Over thousands of miles of tracks traveled merchants, industrialists, tourists, and fortune seekers, all bent on enjoying what Colorado had to offer either on a temporary or permanent basis. Much of the history of the Pike's Peak Region was predicated on the railroads, and the growth that the area enjoyed was dependent on the new residents and the trains that brought them.

Beginning by recording his birth in his grandmother’s cottage in Chinley, Derbyshire, Brian Fish recounts the story of his early life in his third book, Tokens of Youth. Focusing on his own upbringing, as well as his family heritage, Brian shares his memories of growing up, moving schools and attending university. After his father gained permanent employment in the Civil Service, Brian and his family moved from the idyllic peaks of Derbyshire to the thriving capital of London. It was here that Brian discovered his ability for languages, receiving an excellent education in both English and French. The family later moved to Leicester where his education suffered, failing to build on his promising start in French, but instead involving him in the world of science. Brian went on to win a scholarship to study mining engineering at Birmingham University where he spent the first three years of the war. Now a young adult, Brian was taken into the army, later seeing active service in Burma, relying on his strong Christian faith to guide his behaviour, his words and his actions. Tokens of Youth will appeal to those who enjoy reading autobiographies, particularly those set in the 1920s and 1930s.

Revitalizing railways as a major sustainable transport mode in modern societies faces many issues and challenges. This in-depth overview places the importance of railways in the wider context of comprehensive sustainability, which encompasses sustainable development, social and economic equity and community livability. Some scholars have described the 21st century as a period of renaissance for railways and suggest this transport mode can fulfil people's desire for high mobility with low negative environmental, social, economic and financial impacts. In light of these new expectations for railways, in both passenger and freight transport worldwide, this book offers the latest research insights on the renewed interest about railway expansions and their wide-ranging environmental, socio-economic and even political implications.
