This book presents research tested models, methods and tools that can make the work of the facilities manager more robust and sustainable, help long-term strategic planning and support students and practitioners in FM to improve the way they approach and deal with challenges in practice. The 34 models, methods and tools are presented in relation to five typical challenges for facilities managers: Strategy development Organisational design Space planning Building projects Optimisation The chapters are short and concise, presenting a central illustration of one model, method or tool with explanatory text and short, exemplary case studies. Each chapter includes references to further reading, and the book includes a keyword index. Essential reading for all involved in the management of built assets, this book bridges the gap between robust academic research and practical industry tools. It can also be used as a handy student reference.

This Special Issue book reprint of Buildings presents research concerning models, methods, and tools relevant to Facilities Management, encompassing an editorial article and five empirical studies. Four papers are mainly qualitative, based on case studies of organisations and facilities, while one paper is primarily quantitative, based on a national questionnaire survey. Groen and van Sprang's paper investigates hospitality and safety in relation to entrances and reception areas of corporate buildings. Echeveri et al. investigate corporate strategies for utilizing co-working spaces. Lahti and Nenonen present a study of the co-design of digitally and physically integrated hybrid working environments. Abisuga et al. investigate how facility managers handle user feedback to drive collaboration between facility managers and users during occupancy. Boge et al. present a study of the factors that are most important for building and renovation projects' short-term and long-term value creation.

UK construction supply chain firms face an array of risks going into 2021 as fallout from the COVID-19 crisis – not least the effect of social distancing rules on site productivity. But underlying construction demand remains broadly in place for the expected medium-term. SPON’S ARCHITECTS’ AND BUILDERS’ PRICE BOOK 2021, compiled by AECOM, still provides the most accurate, detailed and professionally relevant construction price information for the UK. Its unique Tender Index , updated through the year (2015 = 100), gives an ongoing reality check and allows you to adjust for changing market conditions. Although it suits a wide range of project sizes, this is the only price book which sets out a detailed cost base for contracts exceeding £4,000,000 in value. Use the access code inside the front cover of the book to get set up with an ebook of this 2021 edition on the VitalSource® Bookshelf platform, available for access and use until the end of December 2021. As well as an overhaul of prices, several new items have been added, including: a London fringe office cost model a higher education refurbishment cost model Pecafil® permanent formwork and an expanded range of cast iron rainwater products along with the standard features you have come to expect from SPON’S ARCHITECTS’ AND BUILDERS’ PRICE BOOK: 20,000 prices for the most frequently specified items, the majority with labour constants and detailed build-ups Hundreds of alternative materials prices for the more unusual items Detailed guidance on wage rates, daywork, cost limits and allowances, property insurance and professional fees, plus useful formulae, design criteria and trade association addresses Updates, free of charge, twice a year – see inside for registration details. A range of factors are all combining to propel input cost inflation. Higher international logistics costs, returning demand from industry workload, and higher global metals prices are some of the ingredients to quicker building cost inflation. Whilst some EU materials exporters to the UK are adjusting to Brexit, other EU exporters — initially smaller or specialist firms hit proportionally harder — are now deciding not to supply the UK at all, because the additional red tape involved makes it not commercially viable. If this trend replicates across the whole EU to UK supply chain, visible disruption and higher prices are likely until other sources of supply begin to increase in volume and step in to address these supply issues. Among other exporters continuing to supply the UK, significant price increases are being applied to cover the permanent Brexit non-tariff barriers and additional administrative processes. In this book, innovations in the education system are discussed and exemplary developments and projects from Finland and Germany are compared. On the one hand, the focus is on current research results, while on the other hand, examples of good practice from both countries describe remarkable ways of implementation and provide creative suggestions for one's own educational work. These are based on the experience of ten years of international cooperation between two teacher-training university locations.

This book describes the latest methods and tools for the management of information within facility management services and explains how it is possible to collect, organize, and use information over the life cycle of a building in order to optimize the integration of these services and improve the efficiency of processes. The coverage includes presentation and analysis of basic concepts, procedures, and international standards in the development and management of real estate inventories, building registries, and information systems for facility management. Models of strategic management are discussed and the functions and roles of the strategic management center, explained. Detailed attention is also devoted to building information modeling (BIM) for facility management and potential interactions between information systems and BIM applications. Criteria for evaluating information system performance are identified, and guidelines of value in developing technical specifications for facility management services are proposed. The book will aid clients and facility managers in ensuring that information bases are effectively compiled and used in order to enhance building maintenance and facility management.

This title represents an ambitious undertaking, namely a broad view on the nature of intelligent decision making, which is characterized by the use of models and methods in the framework of decision support for management. With this title we want to reflect the scope of our field, but, at the same time, honor our colleague th Paul Stahly on the occasion of his 65 birthday. Paul Stahly has over decades invested his energy in developing the area of Operations Research from such a broad point of view. He has done this not only at his chairs at the HSG / University of St. Gallen and the University of Linz, but also on a broad international level as editor of ITOR and as influential member of all the Operations Research societies in the German speaking countries. He has, in particular, enriched our area by application-oriented research and industrial projects in fields such as logistics, emergency planning, [mance, and others, and he was pivotal in strengthening the cooperation between the national and international OR societies, particular in the German speaking area. VI Consequently, many colleagues who partly cooperated very closely with him, have contributed to this monograph. Some of these contributions have been presented at a colloquium in January 2001 in St. Gallen in honor of Paul Stahly. This colloquium was attended by many colleagues coming from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy and even from the United States.
