The “Hyperboloidal Foliation Method” introduced in this monograph is based on a (3 + 1) foliation of Minkowski spacetime by hyperboloidal hypersurfaces. This method allows the authors to establish global-in-time existence results for systems of nonlinear wave equations posed on a curved spacetime. It also allows to encompass the wave equation and the Klein-Gordon equation in a unified framework and, consequently, to establish a well-posedness theory for a broad class of systems of nonlinear wave-Klein-Gordon equations. This book requires certain natural (null) conditions on nonlinear interactions, which are much less restrictive that the ones assumed in the existing literature. This theory applies to systems arising in mathematical physics involving a massive scalar field, such as the Dirac-Klein-Gordon systems. Contents:IntroductionThe Hyperboloidal Foliation and the Bootstrap StrategyDecompositions and Estimates for the CommutatorsThe Null Structure in the Semi-Hyperboloidal FrameSobolev and Hardy Inequalities on HyperboloidsRevisiting Scalar Wave EquationsFundamental L∞ and L2 EstimatesSecond-Order Dervatives of the Wave ComponentsNull Forms and Decay in TimeL2 Estimate on the Interaction TermsThe Local Well-Posedness TheoryBibliography Readership: Graduate students and researchers in analysis and differential equations. This book could serve as part of graduate course on nonlinear wave equations. Keywords:Nonlinear Waves;Hyperbolic System;Existence Theory;Curved Spacetime;Hyperboloidal;Foliation;Massive Scalar Field

This edited volume contains ten papers on the subject of fuzzy technology. Fuzzy technology emerged as a combination of fuzzy sets theory, fuzzy logic and fuzzy-based reasoning. As a technology it gained a very practical meaning through thousands of applications in different theoretical as well as practical disciplines, covering mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, life science, social science, economy, computer science, and (foremost) electrical, electronic, mechanical, nuclear, chemical, textile, aeronautic, ocean, and many other engineering disciplines. The goal of this book is to create an interest in fuzzy technology among researchers, engineers, professionals and students involved in the research and development in the broad area of artificial intelligence. This book is also intended to bring the reader up-to-date in the area of implementations and applications of fuzzy technology, as well as to generate and stimulate new research ideas in this area. It may inspire and motivate the researcher in new directions, as well as creating a force for new efforts to make a fuzzy technology commonly known and used in science and engineering. This volume appears at a time of unprecedented research interest in the field of fuzzy technology. I intentionally wrote research due to the events that have occurred during the last couple of years. To be more specific, I should describe this interest geographically.

Lie groups has been an increasing area of focus and rich research since the middle of the 20th century. In Lie Groups: An Approach through Invariants and Representations, the author's masterful approach gives the reader a comprehensive treatment of the classical Lie groups along with an extensive introduction to a wide range of topics associated with Lie groups: symmetric functions, theory of algebraic forms, Lie algebras, tensor algebra and symmetry, semisimple Lie algebras, algebraic groups, group representations, invariants, Hilbert theory, and binary forms with fields ranging from pure algebra to functional analysis. By covering sufficient background material, the book is made accessible to a reader with a relatively modest mathematical background. Historical information, examples, exercises are all woven into the text. This unique exposition is suitable for a broad audience, including advanced undergraduates, graduates, mathematicians in a variety of areas from pure algebra to functional analysis and mathematical physics.

Erika Kohut teaches piano at the Vienna Conservatory by day. By night she trawls the city's porn shows while her mother, whom she loves and hates in equal measure, waits up for her. Into this emotional pressure-cooker bounds music student and ladies' man Walter Klemmer. With Walter as her student, Erika spirals out of control, consumed by the ecstasy of self-destruction. A haunting tale of morbid voyeurism and masochism, The Piano Teacher, first published in 1983, is Elfreide Jelinek's Masterpiece. Jelinek was awarded the Nobel Prize For Literature in 2004 for her 'musical flow of voices and counter-voices in novels and plays that, with extraordinary linguistic zeal, reveal the absurdity of society's clichs and their subjugating power. The Piano Teacher was adapted into an internationally successful film by Michael Haneke, which won three major prizes at Cannes, including the Grand Prize and Best Actress for Isabelle Huppert.

Twenty years ago, the Gebusi of the lowland Papua New Guinea rainforest had one of the highest homicide rates in the world. Bruce M. Knauft found then that the killings stemmed from violent scapegoating of suspected sorcerers. But by the time he returned in 1998, homicide rates had plummeted, and Gebusi had largely disavowed vengeance against sorcerers in favor of modern schools, discos, markets, and Christianity. In this book, Knauft explores the Gebusi's encounter with modern institutions and highlights what their experience tells us more generally about the interaction between local peoples and global forces. As desire for material goods grew among Gebusi, Knauft shows that they became more accepting of and subordinated by Christian churches, community schools, and government officials in their attempt to benefit from them—a process Knauft terms "recessive agency." But the Gebusi also respond actively to modernity, creating new forms of feasting, performance, and music that meld traditional practices with Western ones, all of which Knauft documents in this fascinating study.
