Fiction. At the heart of MYSTERIOUS DREAMS OF THE DEAD is the spiritual search for a father who died in a plane crash north of Lake Superior when his son was fifteen. Mike Shintani decides in his early thirties to address the curious circumstances surrounding his father's death; the senior Shintani's body was never found, and wolves circled the crash site as if guarding the area. The impetus for Mike's search for truth is a diary he found in the basement of his home. It was obviously his father's, but it was written in Japanese. Mike never knew his father could write Japanese. He himself could neither read nor write the language. He was fortunate enough to enlist the help of Naoko Ito, a Japanese grad student at the University of Toronto. It turned out, the book was a dream diary, filled with poetry, descriptions of the surreal, and the story of a love affair with a woman named Chiemi. Chiemi is at the centre of the elder Shintani's dreams, and Naoko, after some time, seemingly disappears into thin air. Both appear as ghosts in dreams. Another great mystery of Mike's life is the behaviour of one of his best friends, Boku Sugiura, who decides one day to rob a bank, in the name of his grandfather and redress for Japanese Canadians. The two strains of the novel come together in Moose Jaw. Mike discovers the truth about his father's life and Boku's uncle (Daniel Sugiura from Terry's previous novel, THE THREE PLEASURES), a protestor in the Moose Jaw stand-off. Through elements of the Japanese ghost story (kwaidan), magic realism, and Buddhist myth, secrets are revealed and explored. MYSTERIOUS DREAMS OF THE DEAD is an imaginative examination of the effects of exile, internment, and dispersal on the third-generation of Japanese Canadians (the Sansei).

Man, Woman, Young, Old, It doesn't matter. Communism, Capitalism, Socialism, Rich, Poor, It doesn't matter. We are all on the same roller coaster. A collection of death, dreams, and ghost stories were gathered and presented to C.G. Jung and the author, who approaches this fascinating material from the depths of her analytic experience. ""… among the Swiss, who are commonly regarded as stolid, unimaginative, rationalistic and materialistic, there are just as many ghost stories and suchlike as, say, in England or Ireland. Indeed, as I know from my own experience ... magic as practiced in the Middle Ages ... has by no means died out, but still flourishes today ... I can recommend it to all those who know how to value things that break through the monotony of daily life with salutary effects, (sometimes!) shaking our certitudes and lending wings to the imagination"" – from the Foreword by C.G. Jung. We are left in the overpowering presence of a great mystery. 9783856305802

City of dead dreams is a crime fiction based on the oppression of the common man with a central message on cultism, violence, religion, poor governance, street governments, drug cartels, prostitution, gang wars, betrayal, alcoholism, love, lust, molestation, child labour, revolution, etc. The book has its setting in Calabar South, Nigeria, West Africa with a lot of surreal characters whose words and thoughts shaped this reality. Also, you can read through its prequel below;I witnessed it in the early 2000s, I was just a little boy in the neighbourhood, I witnessed them come into our homes every evening dressed in black ropes and carrying long guns to take all we had away from us and also take away every breathe of sanity left in us, we couldn't do nothing but weep for our helplessness as we took turns to wail over whose household got robbed, whose daughter got raped, whose son got mucked and whose mother got dropped. It was a terrible scenery for everyone of us, no one came up to save us, no one was there to help us, the elders were really scared to their knee to speak up whenever these things happened. I remember little Etebong Atakpa beating his chest and swearing to put an end to this unrest but he couldn't fall through, he died a week later of sickle cell anemia. Everyone mourned his death including his little cousin who died next, even though, it was barely 2 months he visited earth. The street chose us but some of us had mothers who swore to protect us, some of our mothers got raped in the process of resisting them from taking their sons away from them. Our fathers couldn't do much, most of them were cowards who sought succour from the bottle of alcohol. Young mothers in the city taught their daughters how to take in so much pain at a time at such a tender age by inserting "turner" of various shapes and sizes into their vagina just to get them ready for the day that the villains will take turns in defiling them. It was like these little girls were born ready to be defiled by detestable men who had no heart. We were young, really young at that time but we hated to look from the sideways and it felt like we were born to suffer when we couldn't do a thing about it. Every time we gathered at night, it wasn't for the moonlight tales, we were there to relate with each other on our state of helplessness. We had a lot of tears to give away, a lot of fakes smiles and hugs to go round as we held hands and reflected on the pains that was about to befall us like it usually does every night. We were young, bruised and torn but we were one!

While in training at the C.G. Jung Institute in Zürich in 1988, Susan Olson suffered the loss of her daughter in an auto accident. In this intimate and unique exploration, Olson uses C. G. Jung’s psychological framework to describe her journey through tragedy, guided by a series of vivid dreams. In Images of the Dead in Grief Dreams: A Jungian View of Mourning, Jung's definition of the dream as a "harbinger of fate, a portent and comforter, a messenger of the gods" evolves from theory into embodied insight as Olson describes her encounter with the transforming power of grief. Drawing from personal experience as well as theoretical and clinical material, Olson presents premonitory dreams, which occur before the loss of a loved one, and grief dreams, which follow a loved one’s death, and analyzes both according to Jung’s method of dream interpretation. Sharing her own dreams as well as those of other mourners, Olson asserts that such dreams play a crucial role in the dreamer’s emotional recovery and psychological development, otherwise known as the process of individuation. She sensitively offers an assessment of the stages of grief and draws on the Greek myth of Demeter and Persephone, Jung’s memoirs, and other literature to amplify her experience of mourning. In this rare combination of grief theory and dream work, Images of the Dead in Grief Dreams is both a grief memoir and an extensive study of C. G. Jung’s view of the mourning process. This fully updated revised edition will be of immense interest to Jungian analysts and trainees, academics, psychologists, students of Jungian dream analysis, and to all who have suffered loss.

His adventures in Vietnam from August 1966 to March 1968 are extraordinary and unforgettable. These tales of heroism in battle are riveting and transfixing -- they make the heart race and leave the reader fascinated, absorbed and in awe. O'Malley begins with his first day in "the bush" by bravely killing a Viet Cong with a bayonet, thereby saving his Company Commander's life. Adding to the complexities of war, an indescribable heartache and personal tragedy tear at his soul, and O'Malley responds by becoming a relentless, efficient destroyer of the enemy. He also emerges as a superior leader -- one who passionately cares for the people under his command. This young man with a powerful, charismatic character, a big, resonant baritone voice and a deep commitment to duty and honor is that rarity among soldiers -- a true warrior.
