Taiwan Aborigine Missionary R Don Mccall Sr Family Letters

65 Note that today, Huaiyin is a district of Huaian. What Dad called Huaian is
today commonly spelled Huai'an, which is also part of (greater) Huaian. On
Chinese maps, Huai'an is called either Chu Zhou City District or Huai'an District.

RUGGED, REAL Taiwan aborigines—the original explorers Dad, the work, the results, the Gospel Beyond aboriginal work, Dad supported Taiwan Presbyterian Church General Secretary Rev. Dr. C.M. Kao. Kao (Gao) was imprisoned for arranging refuge for the leader of the Kaohsiung Incident (a Roman Catholic), who turned to Kao in court and said, “You are the saint of Taiwan.” Inaction on Dr. Kao’s Declaration of Human Rights in 1977 represented perhaps the greatest missed opportunity of President Jimmy Carter’s legacy in speaking out for those without a voice. In retirement, Dad self-financed a tour of eight China mainland seminaries in Shanghai, Nanjing, Beijing, Xian, Chengdu, Wuhan, Suzhou, and Guangzhou. The seminaries had shut down for decades, but not the Gospel.

This book focuses on high-speed rail (HSR) and new town planning and development related to HSR, approaching the issue from three different perspectives: economic cooperation at a regional level; HSR-based economic growth point at a city level; and mixed land use and building environment in the periphery area of HSR stations. On the basis of simulations and case studies, it proposes practical planning principles and suggestions for area development, providing planners with a theoretical framework to incorporate the transportation system into new town planning. It also serves as a valuable reference source for the authorities, enabling them to make evidence-based and rational decisions.

The transformation in Chinese social theory in the twentieth century placed the rural-urban divide at the centre of individual identity. In 1500, such distinctions were insignificant and it was the emergence of political reforms in the early 1920s and 1930s which separated cities and towns as agents of social change and encouraged a perception of rural backwardness. This interdisciplinary collection traces the development and distinctions between urban and rural life and the effect on the Chinese sense of identity from the sixteenth century to the present day. It provides a daunting example of the influence that political ideology may exert on an individual's sense of place.

China has one of the world's earliest civilizations and was the first country in the world to make maps. This volume shows how the development of cartography was an inseparable part of ancient Chinese culture and reveals the huge repository of maps in national museums, libraries and preservation centres. The examples are noteworthy, not only as documents charting the development of knowledge of China's topography, but also as works of art with great value in the study of Chinese art, architecture and social life. The book illustrates and examines over 160 maps arranged chronologically and accompanied by scientific analyses on topography and mapping technique. It concludes with a comprehensive chronicle listing important events in map-making history.
