The story of a mysterious southern Illinois treasure cave and its proof of the presence of Africans in North America long before Columbus. • Includes over 100 photographs of the artifacts discovered. • Re-creates the historic voyage of King Juba and his Mauretanian sailors across the Atlantic to rebuild their society in the New World. • Explains the mystery of the Washitaws, a tribal group of African origin, first encountered by the Lewis and Clark Expedition. In 1982 Russell E. Burrows, a treasure hunter in southern Illinois, stumbled on a cache of ancient weapons, jewels, and gold sarcophagi in a remote cave. There also were stone tablets inscribed with illustrations of Roman-like soldiers, Jews, early Christians, and West African sailors. These relics fueled a bitter controversy in the archaeological community regarding their authenticity, leading Burrows to destroy the entrance to the cave. Researching more than 7,000 artifacts removed from the cave before it was sealed, Frank Joseph explains how these objects came to be buried in the middle of the United States. It started with Cleopatra, whose daughter was made queen of the semi-independent realm of Mauretania, present-day Morocco, which she ruled with her husband, King Juba II. Following the execution of their son, Ptolemy, by Emperor Caligula, the Mauretanians rebelled against their Roman overlords and made their way into what is now Ghana. There they constructed a fleet of ships for a transatlantic voyage to a land where they hoped to rebuild their kingdom safe from Roman rule. They took with them a great prize unsuccessfully sought by two Roman emperors: Cleopatra's golden treasure and King Juba's encyclopedic library of ancient wisdom. Fully illustrated with many previously unpublished photographs of artifacts retrieved from the southern Illinois site, The Lost Treasure of King Juba is a compelling story that could force us to rethink the early history of our nation and the possibility that Africans arrived on our continent nearly fifteen centuries before Columbus.

The twenty-four tales in this book are of the most famous lost treasures in America, from a two-foot statue reportedly made entirely of silver (the “Madonna”) and a cache of gold, silver, and jewelry that was rumored to also contain the first Bible in America to seventeen tons of gold—its value equal to the treasury of a mid-sized nation—buried somewhere in northwestern New Mexico. What makes these tales even more compelling is that none of these known-to-be-lost treasures have been discovered, although modern detecting technology has made them eminently discoverable.

Research is the key to finding lost treasure, artifacts, relics and lost history, but do you know how much lost treasure in the United States, or the State of your choice? Well Commander does and he shares (for the first time ever published) a precise listing - State by State in the United State - how much lost wealth there is out there in Lost Treasures, Sunken Treasures and Lost Mines. Commander wrote this book to EDUCATE AND INFORM you on the ins-and outs of the treasure and history hunting hobby and business. Special chapters educate you on understanding why gold always goes up and its effect on, not only the economy, but how something worth a mere $20 in gold in 1880, is worth between $1500 and $1,000,000 dollars in today's market. How can you decide what lost treasure to peruse if you don't understand the economics of gold, supply and demand, the precious metals markets and why people invest in precious metals in the first place? You can't - to be successful you need an education in treasures - specifically gold. Each treasure story included comes with a simple 10 Step Research Check List and notes page so YOU CAN CUSTOMISE this book and KEEP YOUR PERSONAL RESEARCH neatly documented with the treasure story you select to investigate. BUT THIS BOOK IS NOT about Treasure Stories, it is about HOW TO RESEARCH THEM, FIND THEM, RECOVER THEM and gain incredible rewards. Additional chapter sections include public domain photographs of the various types of professional treasure hunting equipment used (you need to know what equipment professionals use to find lost history and treasures) and a description of each, various treasure hunting locations experienced by the ExpeditionHistory.org teams; and a compendium of Commander's various Treasure Hunting Books published. This is an educational book, not a recreational book. This book is to learn, study and apply powerful educational information, not just read snippets of various treasure legends. Tiffany's pioneering efforts in interior design are covered, as are his easel paintings and his doomed but inspiring dream of creating a permanent residential retreat for working artists. Hugh F. Nathan Raab, America’s preeminent rare documents dealer, delivers a “diverting account of treasure hunting in the fast lane” (The Wall Street Journal) that recounts his years as the Sherlock Holmes of historical artifacts, questing after precious finds and determining their authenticity. A box uncovered in a Maine attic with twenty letters written by Alexander Hamilton; a handheld address to Congress by President George Washington; a long-lost Gold Medal that belonged to an American President; a note that Winston Churchill wrote to his captor when he was a young POW in South Africa; paperwork signed and filled out by Amelia Earhart when she became the first woman to fly the Atlantic; an American flag carried to the moon and back by Neil Armstrong; an unpublished letter written by Albert Einstein, discussing his theory of relativity. Each day, people from all over the world contact Nathan Raab for help understanding what they have, what it might be worth, and how to sell it. The Raab Collection’s president, Nathan is a modern-day treasure hunter and one of the world’s most prominent dealers of historical artifacts. Most weeks, he travels the country, scours auctions, or fields phone calls and emails from people who think they may have found something of note in a grandparent’s attic. In The Hunt for History, “Raab takes us on a wild hunt and deliciously opens up numerous hidden crevices of history” (Jay Winik, author of April 1865)—spotting a letter from British officials that secured the Rosetta Stone; discovering a piece of the first electric cable laid by Edison; restoring a fragmented letter from Andrew Jackson that led to the infamous Trail of Tears; and locating copies of missing audio that had been recorded on Air Force One as the plane brought JFK’s body back to Washington. Whether it’s the first report of Napoleon’s death or an unpublished letter penned by Albert Einstein to a curious soldier, every document and artifact Raab uncovers comes with a spellbinding story—and often offers new insights into a life we thought we knew.
