This research project is a part of the Cultural Identity Research led by the Confucius Institute at the University of Western Australia which focuses on the Chinese who have migrated to Australia since China opened up to the world in the 1980s. In this book we will tell the stories of these ordinary Chinese, their happiness and sorrows, inspirations and difficulties,, and through recorded oral histories we will analyse their cultural identity, and their experience of integration with, and contribution to, this vast far away land. Most of our interviewees, even if they have been living in Australia for many years, struggle to convey their cultural identity. This project is a precursor to further research on this fascinating universal issue for immigrants.

Orla Tinsley is well known as a campaigner for the rights of people with Cystic Fibrosis in Ireland. In her memoir, she takes us on a journey into the inner world of a child whose home from home was hospital, yet who from an early age refused to allow her illness to define her. It is also a story about coming of age in today's Ireland, as Orla takes us through school, college and the pursuit of a dream to become a writer. She describes how her love of poetry and drama sustained her through difficult times, and how writing in her journal was often a lifeline. She also tells of coming to terms with the loss of young friends through CF, and her at times maverick fight to improve an under-par health system that, for those with CF, delivers a lesser life expectancy in Ireland than anywhere else in Europe. Orla's family instilled in her a mind-over-matter philosophy from an early age: if you can't do something one way, keep trying until you find another. Salty Baby reveals the path of a young woman known for her fighting spirit: deeply personal, at times shocking, always honest, and ultimately hopeful.

My Story The Setup My story has been partially told so many times to my students and my grandchildren that I realized that I need to just print it. So many people want to know how it was back in the day. I promised myself that I would write it down whenever I got the chance. Well, the cancer treatments allowed me the time to do so. Also, this was a good time because my aunt and brothers and sister are all still alive. They helped to reinforce how I remembered the events. It still hurts to relive the two brothers going off to the Vietnam War and only one getting back alive. Then I realize that my life was already planned, already set up by God. I just needed to follow the plan and continue to be a beacon of light for others to see. I hope that this book might uplift someone else who is struggling with a serious illness and has not realized that we should rejoice in what God is doing in our lives even though we dont understand. Enjoy!

The harrowing true story of abduction and survival from the courageous young woman who lived it—now the subject of a Lifetime original movie, I Am Elizabeth Smart. In this memoir, Elizabeth Smart reveals how she survived and the secret to forging a new life in the wake of a brutal crime. On June 5, 2002, fourteen-year-old Elizabeth Smart, the daughter of a close-knit Mormon family, was taken from her home in the middle of the night by religious fanatic Brian David Mitchell and his wife, Wanda Barzee. Elizabeth was kept chained, dressed in disguise, repeatedly raped, and told she and her family would be killed if she tried to escape. After her rescue on March 12, 2003, she rejoined her family and worked to pick up the pieces of her life. With My Story, Elizabeth tells of the constant fear she endured every hour, her courageous determination to maintain hope, and how she devised a plan to manipulate her captors and convinced them to return to Utah, where she was rescued minutes after arriving. Smart explains how her faith helped her stay sane in the midst of a nightmare and how she found the strength to confront her captors at their trial and see that justice was served. In the years after her rescue, Smart transformed from victim to advocate, traveling the country and working to educate, inspire and foster change. She has created a foundation to help prevent crimes against children and is a frequent public speaker. She and her husband, Matthew Gilmour, now have two children.

He learned life lessons and skills through trial and error in uncertain times in America as he grew up on the farm. Amid the early loss of his father and World War II rationing, Nordine's mother led him and his brothers in the Lord's Prayer and the 23rd Psalm every night. Nordine matured into a teenager who took pride in his farming skills, presided over the 4-H club, and accepted Jesus as his Savior. The farm boy transformed into a man who began building the foundation that would one day support his dreams of creating a better life even as his faith was tested again and again. From achieving success in real estate to using chalkboards in order to share gospel messages with the world, Nordine describes how he never lost his faith in God or himself, even during the most challenging times. The essays and accompanying photographs in this highly engaging, beautifully illustrated book poignantly portray the lives of thirty-two men and women from the ages of seventeen to seventy and of various ethnicities, and socio-economic backgrounds who share the challenge of living with MS. Some, like Amelia, use no mobility aids, while others use canes, wheelchairs, or electric scooters. All have had to face the challenges and limitations that MS has imposed upon their lives, and each has devised unique and often creative coping strategies.Accompanying each essay are commentaries by family members and friends that express their own personal feelings and experiences of living with this disease. Here are the inspirational stories of women, men, and children who live with this disease. Many have children; one or two are currently expecting them. Treatments and therapies for slowing the progression of the disease are revealed and shared, from the latest advances in prescription medication to alternative methods of coping, including yoga, exercise and competitive sports, creative activities such as writing and art, and even community activism. A wide range of accompanying stories by spouses, children, and other loved ones depict the ups and downs of living and caring for someone who has MS, from the moment of first diagnosis to dealing with its ongoing challenges. All are strong reminders of the selflessness of the human spirit, and its ability to nurture and remain strong under even adverse circumstances. Highly motivating and deeply inspirational, My Story will be welcomed by anyone who lives with or shares the life of someone who has MS.

This is not a story of overcoming adversity, but simply one of embracing change as an integral part of a full and happy life. It is the story of growing up in the Baltimore, Maryland suburb of Catonsville through the 40s and 50s, during a time in our history when family values and traditions were strong, into the turbulent 60s and 70s. Diary and journal writing for over 50 years, along with independent travel while living and working in Europe for the US Armed Forces, eased the transition through the many stages of the author's life. Moving towards retirement, the pieces began to take shape in quiet moments on a pastorial island in the Portuguese Azores that shared many of her treasured values of childhood.

A Rollercoaster Ride to Healing

This book is about my journey from being a broken woman to becoming a whole woman. I had spent twenty years in a relationship for all the wrong reasons, and it was sucking the life out of me. Writing this book helped me heal on many levels, some of which I had no idea existed. It was during the healing process that I visited each platform written about in my book. The process hurt, but was well worth the time invested. God planted the seeds for this book twelve years ago. But, because I was hard-headed, I dragged my feet until my marriage almost consumed me. My children were watching me live a life devoid of joy and happiness. I cringed whenever my husband would come near me, and knew there had to be another way to live. My children and I deserved a happier, peaceful, and less-stressed life. Finally, I took God at His word and took that initial step of faith that forever changed my life. It is my hope to spur other women from all walks of life to have the courage to take that step of faith and begin their own rollercoaster ride to healing. Denise Frank was born in Waterbury, Connecticut, and now lives in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania. "I was homeless for the final eight weeks spent working on my book. My kids and I lived in a shelter, and I continued to write despite the situation we were in. Women have to know that, no matter where they are in life, there is always light at the end of the tunnel." Publisher's website: http: //sbpra.com/DeniseYFrank
